Terminal Illness Cannabis Scheme - NSW

nouseforaname

Question

The NSW Government has developed the Terminal Illness Cannabis Scheme (TICS) to extend compassion to adults with a terminal illness.

The scheme provides guidelines for NSW police officers to help them determine the appropriate circumstances in which to use their discretion not to charge adults with terminal illness who use cannabis and/or cannabis products to alleviate their symptoms and carers who assist them.

NSW residents who are aged 18 years and over who have a terminal illness are eligible to register for the scheme.

To register for the scheme, adults with a terminal illness require a medical practitioner who is registered in Australia and involved in their ongoing care to certify that the person has a terminal illness as defined by the scheme. Each eligible adult may nominate up to 3 carers who will be registered under the scheme.

It's Neil Gaiman.

Interesting - when did he write that? I think I first heard it in 1968 at a certain well known university from a memorable Professor in Pathology called Harold Atwood - a very dour beanpole shaped Scot who made us all read Candide for the refined descriptions of tertiary syphilis.

Since it's unlikely that Mr Gaiman was also in those same lectures, that leaves parallel invention or perhaps more likely quoting an acquired meme. After 5000 years, are there many undiscovered by-somebody-at-sometime profondities left?

Update: Atwood's countryman Ronnie Laing is quoted http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/r/rdlaing130177.html as saying " Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent" and he died in 1989 so it probably predates Mr Gaiman ?
