exhaust fans

Recommended Posts

Ok I have been offered a pretty damn good price to get one of the fans pictured bellow

http://www.hydrocentre.com.au/images/250_industrial_fan.JPG

BUT I was told that you can go to far with the power of your exhaust fan .

What I want to know is how much is too much ? is there a formula I can use to figure it out or is it trial and error ?

the room I am getting the fan for is 4.3 m3 I will be using a carbon filter and will run eigther 2 or 3 600w lights so I need a GOOD fan for cooling otherwise it's gonna get too hot for the girls

the fan pumps roughly 2000m3 per hour is that TOO much for my needs ?

and also what happens when you go overboard with fans anyone know?

Novice becareful with the cheap fan mate, It is more than likely not continous rated with ballbearings.

Its probably only got sleeve bearings which flog out real fast and can infact start a fire as it doesnt have the added backup that hydro fans have.

That said I first grew with $14-00 fans from Bunnings but after they all slowed down or stopped working I then brough myself a 250mm Turbo Hydro that shifts 860m3.

It was Scott that educated me about OVER venting your grow room,

I went down to him to buy one very similar to what you have and after he stopped laughing and picked himself off the floor he educated me about ventilation.

Scott has alot of time for his customers and even runs hydroponic courses for free.

I only push Hydrocentre and scott because he has been so helpful in the past and would do anything to keep his customers happy.

;) if you like that fan and cant see yourself using another, put a timer on it and dial up/down running times to suit your temps. maybe 5min every 1/2hr or so...honestly, up frpont that fan is overkill. just finished a large room for a mate. hes got a similar fan @1800m3. but the room is 4mx1.5m with a rail and some nifty (if i dont say so myself) inlet arrangements. without plants in there, we were pulling 23c after the light and rail were running for 12hrs. asmaller room would need less for sure. you wanna make sure you can get good airflow in as well...

HA yeah it is a chunky fucker BUT I want a fan thats gonna be able to handel any rooms that I end up building and in the end it's gonna be sucking out two rooms one veg one flower I can deal with it overcooling or humidity dropping as thats easly fixed I thought there could be larger issues.

Thanx for the advice ferengi and everyone else I will give scott a call and see what he thinks, I'm likely buying it off him anyway ;)

on a side note the main reason I chose this fan was because it isn't made of plastic and I have always apprieciated german engeniering it tends to last longer than asian/ausie made stuff.
