Air Cooled Lights

Recommended Posts

hey im trying to download that pdf but it wont work??

is there anywhere else that has these pics??

also im not so sure if I would put plastic around a HPS light to cool it, whats stopping it from melting and causing fires if the exhaust fan fails??

but hey I havent seen these yet, so my comment might be irrelevent..

also whats your take on light spectrum penetrating the plastic.

I know that glass only reduces UV light and this isnt a requirement for a plant.

Hey ferengi,

I download it the catalouge ok, but I use acrabat reader 6 - I tested the light output with the 600wat Son-T light and when in pvc tube the lumens were about 5% less.

You can get any aquarium shop to order it in for you.

The tube I use is 200mm diameter (8 inch) and the TD800 fan at the base of the setup more than takes the heat awayfrom the lights (you can put your hand on the tube and it is just slightly warm to the touch.

They make the tube in a few different thickness 1mm to 5mm.

I made a chain ladder so the lights in the tube are stable and dont move.

well shit for 5% im going to make sure I take a look at these, you would more than make up for it by having the light closer.

hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows where i can source the 4" glass tubes for the globes as used in the omega garden etc.. They are for sale on ebay in the USA but im looking for a local supplier or a cheaper alternative... Any thoughts will be appreciated

Man those bake a round's are a bitch to find - the only place is ebay or junk stores. They're like a 70's left over. The aquasonic site has some cool aquaculture stuff. Hey Jackfrost - how long have you run the 600 for?

The pvc tubing looks cool in the catalogue, but unless it's heat resistant clear pvc goes cloudy after a little while even if it can take the heat without melting. There's stuff called Lexan Thermoclear that some guys have been experimenting with. It takes up to 800 deg c but it only comes in sheets. Let us know how it goes - my fingers are crossed

Hey was,

ive used the 5mm thick pvc tube (8 inch diameter)and have been using for about 6 months with no discolouring of the plastic - but i use a very large TD800 - so there no heat on the plastic - will run a test with fan off 2 see how hot the plastic gets.

Used to use some pvc "water cooled" "light jackets covers" and they went white after about two years of use.
