Cheap Lighting.

Hi, I have to buy a light for my ladies today or 2moro, or very soon anyway. I sprouted them in a glass of frequently changed spring water, and have started them in small rockwool blocks. Some of them have started rooting, and today have started to open out their first set of jagged leaves. Theres two 'sets' on the plant at the moment, so they are still small.. From being sprouted to this stage has taken nearly one week now. But I do notice growth when I go to sleep and wake up, or go out and come back. I water them with lukewarm room temp water, with no chemicals. I have no bud to smoke and just moved to this area, and arent the type to walk around train stations asking kids for some, so I kinda got this going as fast as possible. I started them off under my 'cool white' car work fluro, which is only 8w, but it has a really blue glow on it. Its pretty good, but as the seedlings got to 4/5cm's high, I could tell they would probably need more light. So now they are under a 2' 18w cool white fluro and my 8w worklight.. They have been under this probably 30 hours now, and I can already tell they are liking the increase in lighting. I cant wait until; I get my 600w, im sure they will crank.

 

Anyway, I was looking at this company for lighting and some things, and just wanted to know what yous thought about this deal.

Your link sent me to their introduction page, not the light in question but a 600w with reflector and ballast usually costs around $300, and the Son-T globe is my personal preference.

The Hydro shop around the corner wants to charge me $410 for a 600w setup.. Ill get these though for $220, seems a good deal. Everywhere on the net is about $300 like you said. Im going to have go to the hydro shop more regularly though. Last time I went (First time) all I could smell was pot in there, and they have a little lounge room and tv in the back, more fellow stoners $ I just dont really want to go in there ask, "Hi, I'll take some Canna nutes and an ounce of hydro if you have any " But I guess you cant get if you dont ask.

The lights are pretty cheap if all brand new. You can air cool the light area by adding ducting hanging in the air behind the light fixture and then to the exhaust fan. It can also be added to china hats easily... In regards to asking the shop questions...... possibly ask what strain suits what system or how many grams per watts or square foot per month etc and he maybe more keen on opening up to you a bit more...

Personally I would stick with the son-t bulbs or even go one better and buy a MH/HPS retro bulb for using during veg and another HPS bulb for flowering.

 

Also if you can try and buy a JBL ballast they are a lot better.

Cheers for the info. What I was thinking of doing.... is cutting a hole into the shade.. and running a 92mm computer fan (From a server, its mad, high output, same a hydro fan, but runs off 12v.) with ducting to a home made carbon filter and trying to get rid of smells that way.

 

HERE is my MAIN problem... I have a vacant property next door to me. I have a ... something ... clinic for my back neighbour. So all the Heroin junkies in my area walk down the side of the block next door, kick my back wooden fence in and walk thru to get their stuff... it hasnt happened since I've moved in, much... I've had many confrontations with groups of junkies and school kids.. so now I get the casual idiot who tries to kick it in.. my back fence is completely down from storms.. but, I have a pair of two very big dogs.. I guess this information could lead to incriminate me.. which is the thing im most scared of. I couldnt care less about these little idiots that come near my place and try to break into my stuff. Ill lock them in my shed for a few days, give them something to tell their friends about. I use to be pretty bad, living away from home from 15-18 years of age, but I am many years older now and have made most of the ppl that have come near my place leave runniing Anyhow, I really need to find out the laws about what I can legally do to people. I can legally restrain them I think.. which may involve broken wrists and stuff, but I want to find out, as I dont want to go to jail for teaching some kid a lesson for thinking he has the right to be on my property.

 

Well, this is where smell comes into it. I can make a room under my bedroom quite easily.,but it will be ez to access for others, and word gets around.. I want to grow mainly for medicinal reasons, as I am currently seeing doctors at the local mental health for my condition, but I dont want to take benzo drugs... as these will surely get me addicted to them. For now I am on the Internet too much for my own good and have kinda lost touch with the world. All my old friends were stoners and grew and stuff, but im still trying to come to terms with "Mull is bad" and "NORMAL" people dont smoke pot.. but everywhere i go everyone is on some form of drugs.. and im kinda thinking, that i feel good about my life, when i am stoned and hang around with people that share my views and pastimes and hobbies/activities. But anyway, this may be for another thread.. or another place I dont know who to talk to, fimally i have tried to seek professional help for my insomnia and anxiety, but it has taken two months, and im still waiting another month at least to see someone.

Im going to go to my hydro shop for some 7cm? square rockwool cubes, as my little sprouters tap root has started to come out the bottom of them. Ive had a friend grow some large setups (3x 1000w hps systems in his bathroom) and seen some of the techniques he uses, and chems etc.. but he uses perlite.. Another friend of mine, his dad grows with light movers and the gear 'was' really good,... he uses expanded clay.

 

Well, Im opting for large rockwool to get some good roots going, and expanded clay in a recyclable setup using .. either... Dutchfest, Dutchmaster? :S or Canna

I hear Canna is excellnt, but have used Dutchfest, and have seen grows of ppl using it, and it is MAD!!!!!!!!!! buit then i hear good things about canna so i dont know. If the shop hjas Dutchfest ill get some of that for now. These are just bag seeds.

 

The stoned from the pot from the bag took a while to kick in. By the time I could pack and pull the 2nd cone i started feeling it, but after that it starts coming on hard. The leaves from the sprouters have 'just' started forming, and have started the tertiary(?) set of leaves, and they seem really fat, so Im thinking its a sativa/indica strain, but I am really unsure, i guess time will tell. Ive read that sative leaves are skinnier, but maybe someone might be able to point me in the right direction, again

 

Thanks for the info guys, ill wait to find a good ballast and light, for now I have been using the sun and the fluoro at night (Since this morning).

Yes your right sativa have skinny leafs and indicas have fat leaves.

I guess it's too early to tell for now. I've replanted the seedlings into 7cm rockwool cubes, and am still deciding on what type of medium I want to use. I bought a bag of coco fibre, and some Dutchfest HydroGrow nute solution. Ill plant some in the coco fibre and see how it goes for now.. until then I'll keep them in the rockwool until they get a bit bigger. You guys grow so fast in (generally) under 10 weeks, and I guess its strain dependant, but im sure they will grow faster with less mess in expanded clay...
