Fans (technical)

I know theres about 4000 fan questions on this board but I just wanted an opinion on my fan situation and basically double check my thought process

 

I have 5 120mm computer fans running on 3 dimmer switchs

2 intake

2 exhaust

1 circulation

 

Each fan rougly moves 18-30 cfm of air, this in my 4x4x2 grow cube. Does this sound like an adiquate about of air flow? The reason I went with the computer fans is obviously cheap to run, small and super super quiet (all double ball-bearing)......

 

Any thoughts on wether or not it will be enough please let me know.

No probs, three fans would do it, even. Two possibly, got the one exhaust, one oscillating myself...... My room alot bigger too

just a caution note,

if you force too much air through the plant it can chill the plant, and cause cold problems.

 

Keep an eye on your temperatures and if it drops too much then put the fans on a timer or use less of them.

There is no such thing as "too much" ventilation. Even in cold temps it's better to be ventilating the heck out of a plant than to quiet down the fans.

 

Don't run any fans on dimmer switches, as they're designed to run at a certain speed for a reason. Lowering or increasing the speed of the fan artificially is liable to upset it's electrical balance and eventually fry.

 

In short, you want to be able to move the entire volume of the room in under 5 minutes, preferably more often than that, like every minute or so.

 

You don't necessarily need to have intake fans either, as the air will be able to reach throughout the growroom fine provided the passive intakes are at the lowest point of the growroom. These will still need to be light baffled, but you can certainly save yourself some time and effort by not having an intake. In larger growrooms it can be useful, granted, but IMHO there's little point in your avg gr to have an intake fan.

thanks for the info guys, much appeciated!! Im going to try running them all at full strengh thank god i had a chance to read this before I went out in the morning to buy my dimmer switches itll save me alot of money. Im gunna watch the temps like a hawk and see what kind of air moves throughout the setup, im pretty confident if I place the fans correctly ill beable to have the intake fan(s) if I dont end up needing the extra I can just so it as another ciculation fan to help clear the air out better.
