Recommended Posts

hey,

the place your after is garden city plastics they are based in vic in monbulk... they dont have a web site i can find but there was a mirror site under another name. The ones your after are flower buckets.. your local nursery should be able to order through them.. check outonline nurseries Other cheap alternatives are those 4-10 kilo yoghurt containers etc...

I get all my buckets at the local restraunts. They get butter in square 5 gallon buckets a little wider .. 10 inches across and around 18 inches tall. If they are too tall you can always cut the top down to whatever height you want it.

They usually just give them to me, but if they are hesitant, I just offer a couple bucks apiece

Thanks for the replies guy's....I did try Garden city plastics and Online nursery's but they didn't have the particular size I was after....Those pot socks, yogurt tubs and butter containers sound like a good idea.

For the smaller pots I use plastic ginger beer bottles from wooly's..(the smoky coloured ones, not the clear plastic..you can make them much deeper to accommodate the tap root and fit more in because they aren't as aren't quite as round as a 5/6 inch pot. Also, when the roots reach the bottom of the pot you can see the roots through the plastic. Because the label is still on and it is dark coloured plastic anyway the light doesn't affect the roots.

Try using storage containers as well, you could easily drill some drainage lines and they're usually quite cheap, less than 10 bucks for a 50 liter or even bigger container.

They'd likely need to be lightproofed, but most come with lids and wheels, and are watertight. I use one for my "feeder" res, which feeds fresh, ph adjusted water into the nute res via a float valve.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and the light will damage the roots, it's not very conducive to their growth. Just make sure you have decent drainage in whatever pots you choose to use, and that they're lightproof, (to prevent algal growth, as well as other probs) and you should go fine.
