Lighting help

Recommended Posts

ok well I am trying to get a bit more of a grasp as to how the lighting in a grow room works and is distributed.

the bottom line question I have is what happens if you have multiple lights as far as distrabution goes I understand about the maximum coverage area but thats not really a problem I have what I want to do is put two lights in an area that "could" just be covered buy a single light .

for the purposes of this post lets just say I was using 1 400w light and one 600watt light positioned how they are in the attached diagram, now would the four plants in the diagram all benifit from having combined light or would I just get uneven growth according the the plants positioning

just to give you an idea of why I want to know at the moment I am thinking of going 2 x 600 watt lights (using different lights in the example made it easier to explain for me) what I am trying to figure out at the moment is if it's gonna make allot of difference if I have all my crop and lights sharing a room and combined light or if I'd be better off splitting half my crop into another room with the second light

HEY dude ,

what ive read is this, and i quote, the cheapest and easiest way to in crease your light is to lower the hanging height of your lights if you can.

Too close to the plants and the ambient air temperature around the plants will become too high.

Extreme cases of this will result in plant burning and plant stress.

The best way to increase your light levels is to introduce higher wattage lamps.

the least efficient means of increasing your yield is to hang more lamps to cover the same area. for example you would be better off hanging 1 by 600watt lamp to cover a square metre than hanging 2 by 400watt lamps to cover a square metre. end quote.

the gap should be 40cm for 400watt lamps and 60cm for 600 watt lamps and 1000 watt lamps.

for the most part , the 600 watt hps lamp has found favour among indoor growers as a lamp that provides the right combination of lumen output and cost effectiveness while not emitting unreasonable amounts of heat

I know that a 1000 watter would be more efficient within it's range as it's all comming from one source but that is not really a solution that is fesable as it involves me purchasing yet another light B)

I want to definatly use 600w Son-t Argo's as that is the most efficient in the series it's just a question of weather I am better off combining all of my crop into a room or if I would get the same results from two rooms with a light each.

You'd get similar results from both plants if you use the same light strength, ie two 600's, but if you used one mh and one hps, and they were static, that is not moving around the growroom, then yeah, you'll notice a difference in growth between the two...

Light movers which rotate the lamps around the room can help, some move side to side as well, and this will effectively increase the space you can grow with one lamp, or will allow you to mix lamps together for best spectra, and yet not have them static in one spot....

So yeah, I'd say use two identical units, or get a light mover... You could also just use one lamp for the early stages, then use the second as a light boost once they're spaced out for flowering.... Just a thought there...

Anyway, hope that helps pure, good luck. B)

yeah luke that covers what I needed to know thanx allot B)

May stick to the one for now and add another during flowering hopoefully the other room will be done buy then and they will all have the space to spread out I think they could get quite cramped in their durrent home
