satalite and run to waste

Recommended Posts

hi crew, my question is for a satalite system.

my first attempt at hydro was a simple two pot satalite system, running two 30 cm pots, sitting inside two 98 cent buckets with garden hose running back to waste or return.(10ltr plastic tub),i know iknow. :D

i used two ten dollar pumps (150ltre an hour) 24 hours a day, on one feed line per pot. hey dont laugh, the light was thrown to me with a bag of expanded clay and two sweet little clones.

i had no cash so had to improvise. grand total was ,wait for it, $28.00,

i had no idea, but it worked.

since then i found a bit of cash, im still using my 30cm pots and 98 cent buckets but have new pots waitin to go in.

reason being i cut back my first grow and regenerated, (come back a treat) now i run a 45ltr tank ,40ltr mix, a heater a bubbler a recirculate pump(one of my $10.00 pumps) and a new hydor 550ltre submersible pump, witch runs through 13 mm black plastic to 2 rings of 13mm with 4 by 6 mm feed lines per pot. hope yo all understood that :P B)

now i have a timer, i run 15minutes on two hours off, lights on and one 15minute feed in the middle of lights off.

i did this for the oxygen water ratio, apparently.

so crew tell me is this correct or doznt it really matter .

TO TIME OR NOT TO TIME that is the question

I time my watering although I could do it manually and I know others do as well you can have a look at peoples gorw diaries but it is always gonna be different

I water for 2 mins twice a day , but my watering times seem to be allot less than others probably because I use coco which holds water allot better than allot of your other mediums I also use a 1100 liter an hour pump so it does pump out a bit in that amount of time ( roughtly 200ml's per watering )

I know that tom and chev are watering at around what your planning they water for 15 mins every 3 hours ( unless they have changed )

so I guess the answer to your question is yeah lots of people use timers

on a bucket satellite system i water the follow times with clay balls net pot sitting in the top of the bucket :-

vegie growth :- 18 hours of light on - first water 10 mins after lights turn on then every 3 hours for 15mins, until a max of 6 waters for a 24 hour period

Flore:- 12 hours of light on - first water 10 mins after lights turn on, then every 2 hours for 15mins, until a max of 6 waters for a 24 hour peroid.

I like not to water the plants during the dark time as this stress the plant slightly and makes the root mass really grow big to look for water.

I also like to start the new water change at a higher CF and everyday reduce the CF down over the week, until the new water change where the process starts again. I found this mehtod actually makes the plants grow faster and bigger
