Flowering

Recommended Posts

The individual strain usually will determine this, as well as the type of original starting material. Sativas take longer to reach sexual maturity from seed than do indicas, and flower longer, and there are many strains with many different growth periods from anything of 2 weeks from seed to sexual maturity to several months.

Usually, plants started from seed under a long day regeime should be sexually mature, and therefore optimal for flowering, after about 1 1/2 to 2 months. Plants grown from clones however, require no such time to grow out and become mature before a good flowering can be acheived, as they aren't as old as they seem. They may be small, but because they're taken from older, mature and ready to flower plants, (usually, although you can certainly take clones before this time.) and will be ready to flower whenever you like.

So, from seed, time, and a few other factors such as preflowers and alternating nodes are signs of maturity and readiness to flower. Anything past that, they'll be bonza. From clones, you can flower them when you like. :P

As Tom has said though, you should always leave yourself a substantial amount of space from the end of veg to the projected end height at the end of flowering. This is usually about double or even triple the finished vegetative height, so keep space! :P Tying down can help too, as well as tipping, but that's another subject.

Hope this helps out cannibalfred1983. :o
