Please help !

Recommended Posts

Some retail pre mix potting mixes are loaded with to much for seedlings. Are you using a seed raise mix, or made a mix yourself ? What are they in? People will help here but need a bit more info.

I don't do indoors or lights, but how close are the 2 CFLs lights, maybe they are to close? Someone maybe can give guide or do some searching there are a bunch of threads and info on growing indoors here.

Cheers.

Yes mastertig, I have always used Jiffy's with no problems.

I think the soil blend is not suitable for seedlings. I don't know enough to comment on CFL being 2-3cm away. But the burn is mostly on leaf tip with the new growth ( highest point) looking ok.

The next set of leaves don't show burn like the others, so maybe just wait and see. Its a bit late to transplant to jiffy, but if the new leaves start to burn I would transplant into 70% seedraising mix  30% mix you have. I'm just guessing percentages, just try and dilute your friends nursery blend.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I didn't think I could start them in seed raising mix as lots of guides ive read say you shouldnt transplant autos as it would stunt their growth.

How would I dilute the mix ? By flushing with lots of water ?

And just a side note, my first 2 grows grew to about 2ft and that was with the exact same mix, except I was using sunlight. So I thought my lighting might be the problem.

Any further thoughts ?

Cheers.

You probably answered your own question, Same mix, but CFL vs Sun being the difference in grows. But sticking seedings into a prepared full on potting mix can be too much. 1 strain may handle the fert but another strain may not. Try looking at everything that is different from your successful previous grow.

Diluting the mix was what I was saying about transplanting into a new mix made from some seedraising mix combined with your mates nursery mix, saved from the 30 odd cm pots. Not saying flush with water.

Good Luck

Furt is BAD for any seed. Seeds come equiped with all the food they need presupplied in the seed packet for initial life. Too much food in the initial phase of a plants life can seriously damage the plant.

Best to start your seeds in a jiffy or neutral mix, then place into your potting mix. You could also use a peat moss pot, like the ones I bought today at BigW plant section, 8cmX8cmX8cm, toss in some seed raising mix and you are good to go. Once the seed is up and out of the ground I push it a little with diluted UNFORTIFIED seaweed extract fert. I see no reason for any serious transplant shock or retarded growth using either method.
