Pre paid Credit Cards

Recommended Posts

Nope, they charge the card in UK pounds and the bank behind the card gives you the rate at the time.

Off topic, but all the hotel booking website do the same thing, charge you in the local currency where the hotel is located so it always costs more than what they show on the screen in AUD.

You'll need to add a 3% margin to the total you intend to spend to cover the 'overseas transaction charge'. For example, if you intend to spend $200 on seed and postage you will need to have the card loaded with $206 to cover the transaction fee.

This is charged by the card issuer and has nothing to do with the seed bank or what currency conversion widget they happen to use.

I bought the pre paid MasterCard from woolworths today. Just as Louise has described. You buy the card for $3.95 at the store. No paperwork no id no worries. I chose to load it up with money right there and then. You can go an amount up $500, just have to use cash or EFT on savings or cheque, they won't take credit. Then, it's ready to be spent right away. I've not done the checkout with a seedbank yet, but I'm gonna drop it down at either herbies or pick n mix. I have used these cards for other online shopping and they've been fine.

The everyday money website from woollies says you gotta do id and paperwork for the re-loadable cause that's for the re-loadable. What I think we're looking to get onto here is the pre-paid... it's fully anonymous.
