ph pen calibration problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I've just brought an ph pen and I want to calibrate it before I use it. I've brought ph 7 buffer with the pen but now I need ph 4 or 9 buffer as well. How/where I can this other ph buffer? I don't really want to drive back to the hydro shop as it's a bit of a drive. The instructions in the ph pen say something about a borax solution being a ph buffer but it makes no sense to me :-/

Peace :-)

You can buy it online from hydro shops, ebay etc.

Your pen may need multi point calibration more specifically than others, so don't hold me to this.  You can usually just calibrate to 7.0 without doing the other points as well, but the degree of accuracy of your readings will not be quite as high.  I have done this in the past when I've only had the 7.0 buffer solution without any dramas, certainly close enough to see you through till you can get the others.  For example on my current meter, after calibrating to 7.0 a reading on the 4.0 solution will come back as 4.1-4.2, so running a hydro solution in mid range around 5.8-6.0 should still be well within an acceptable range
