Filter + Fan Issue

Recommended Posts

Have a can-filter with a 100mm inline duct fan, lit up an incense stick to test for odor control after setting it up but the smell of the incense was still venting out of the exhaust duct, it was much less intense, but nonetheless it was still there. I'm not using a mixed-flow type of fan or centrifugal, just a regular inline fan, if I put my hand over the filter I can feel a slight movement of air. The fan was taped directly on top of the filter the first time then tried with a piece of ducting between them, there was no noticeable difference. I would like to get to the bottom of this, any ideas why the filter isn't doing its job?

I was wondering the same thing, whether the smoke would get filtered correctly. The incense I used was fairly strong to begin with and the filter did seem to eliminate the intensity so it was doing something, just didn't seem to completely eliminate the aroma. Fan that is being used is an allvent a40 axial inline 100mm, its small and underpowered compared to the mixed-flows and centrifugal type fans but based on size of filter 100x250mm it should have just enough power to do the job. No issue with incense aroma escaping the tent which means the fan must be producing enough negative pressure and when opening the tent it takes a couple of seconds before the aroma from the incense becomes apparent. Is there something else I could test the filter with other than incense?

Hi 9ine :peace:

I have roughly th same size carbon filter (125x200(?)x 450 mm  and push through a cooltube and out the carbon fillter.  I am pretty sure you Allvent inline won't have enough pull (or push) to vent your space through that particular filter.  http://www.ruck.eu/index.php?id=98&L=1&RO[stFrAVt]=TRUE&RO[fr]=50&RO[showUid]=451&RO[art_fr]=50&RO[art_un]=230&cHash=bb060585462a7f5c97fcaa0c588d566f   ...this is what I am using...couple years old now and decent value for money it should match your filter.

When you check out cannaversity and then the manufacturer's specs on the fans through their site info cfm , l/s translate those and you can tune in what you are able to use and afford-and you'll get that neg pressure happening so the little sneaky aromas won't be able to go against it.  Hope this made sense lol

faith :sun:

Thanks for the help thus far.

I think based on the size of the tent that there is enough negative pressure being produced by the fan, the fan seems to be doing its job as there is movement of air around the filter and its set up to pull through the filter rather than blow out of it. Introducing a more powerful fan might actually suck in air too quickly due to the size of the area.

The housing and ducting are secured via duct tape, I've checked it and I'm pretty confident that there are no leaks. To make sure I've pulled it all off and re-taped it, still have the same issue.
