Two men charged over cannabis seizure refused bail

Two men from the New South Wales central coast charged over a cannabis seizure have made a brief court appearance in South Australia's Riverland.

 

Both men have been refused bail.

 

Police pulled over 24-year-old John Stanley Tobiasz and 22-year-old Mikaele Taufaao on the Mallee Highway near the South Australian-Victorian border last night.

 

Police allege they discovered 42 kilograms of dried cannabis hidden in their ute, equivalent to 14,000 street deals, headed for the eastern states.

 

In the Berri Magistrates Court today, police opposed bail because of the quantity of drugs involved and on the grounds that both men live interstate.

 

Despite arguing that they had no criminal history, both men were denied bail and will reappear in court next Tuesday.
