Stuart Highway straight up

 

DARWIN Lord Mayor candidate Stuart Highway – whose platform for election included legalising marijuana – spent yesterday morning telling all and sundry he had a 94 per cent chance of becoming mayor.

 

“Based on our extensive polling there is a lot of support for our ideas in the community given that most Territorians have indulged in illicit drugs from time to time,” Mr Highway, a member of the grassroots organisation Network Against Prohibition, said yesterday.

 

“But being mayor may be a problem considering I still have that five-month jail sentence hanging over my head from last year for interrupting parliament.

 

“I might have to work out a way to run the city from my cell.”

 

He said he also stood for “a fair go for longrassers” and an end to the US military presence in the NT.

 

Mr Highway polled 560 votes late last night.
