What Size Pots For Indoor Soil Grow

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone,

Got some clones rooting and Im wondering what size pots to put them in when they start showing roots? :D

Will be using about 50/50 potting mix/perlite. Grow footprint is 45cm x 85cm, hoping to fit in 4 plants. Is it true that mj needs height of pots more than width? ;)

Your advice will be appreciated :D

Try to use containers which fit into the dimensions you're talking about, that will probably mean playing around and testing sizes of various containers in shops and so on... but you could look into laundry buckets...

I suppose 10 Litres would be the minimum size you'd want for a clone plant growing to flower, even if it was reasonably small. This can appear to be a large amount, but it's not that much really. ;) Provided the plant doesn't root bound itself, (and to a large degree this can depend on how you treat it, and what the strains genetics are programmed to do, etc...) and get too strangled, it should be okay in a small container, but about 10 liters would be the minimum size I'd go to.

Just my humble opinion though, hope it helps. :D

Thanx Luke,

Im thinking 20cm square tubs might do the trick. Thats 8 litres or 2.2 gallons. I read somewhere that you need at least 1 gallon (3.6 litres) per ft of height.

With the 20cm square tubs, I can fit 8 in my area. So even if I get a crappy 1/4 ounce of each plant (as Ive heard of people getting 1oz of each plant in sog), it still adds up to 2oz, which is enough to sustain me til the next grow.

Thanks for your help Luke, and may the growing force be with you! ;)

Ill let you know how I go! :D

Although I must admit youve got me thinking about those laundry buckets. Ill have to measure them to figure out how I could fit those in as theyre probably taller than the square tubs I was thinking of before and Im pretty sure theyre 10 litres-the laundry buckets.

Thanks for a great idea Luke! :D

Ill have to get myself a digi-cam soon so I can post pics! ;)
