DR. ALEX WODAK SPEAKS OUT ABOUT MEDICINAL MARIJUANA IN AUSTRALIA

A 2010 poll commissioned by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing suggested that 69% of the community already support medicinal cannabis in Australia, while 74% support more research – so with more than half of the Australian public reportedly supporting medical marijuana in Australia since 2010, is it just a matter of time before our politicians decide to tax and regulate? Dr. Alex Wodak, President of the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation and Director of the Alcohol and Drug Service at Sydneys St. Vincent’s Hospital (1982-2012) believes so.


Dr. Wodak, who after researching the history of drug prohibition and realising the evidence of it working did not exist, began supporting cannabis law reform in Australia more than 27 years ago. Dr. Wodak believes the criminal justice approach to managing drugs has completely failed, only benefiting politicians, criminals and terrorists – stating “if we can’t keep drugs out of our prisons, how on earth could we keep them out of Melbourne or Sydney?” Dr. Wodak recently spoke with Cannabis News Australia regarding the environment of cannabis in Australia and what he thinks the future holds for marijuana in Australia.
