A TOOWOOMBA man who told police he no longer smoked marijuana was four days later found growing the drug inside his home.

Found with a cone piece used for smoking the drug on January 3, Nathan Thomas Watts, 27, told police it was an old cone and that he hadn't smoked marijuana for more than six months, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

However, a police search of his Toowoomba home on January 7 found two 50cm marijuana plants growing in a box under a hydroponic system in a cupboard, police prosecutor Greg McIntyre told the court.

The total weight of the marijuana was 100g and the search also turned up a pipe for smoking the drug.

Watts pleaded guilty to producing a dangerous drug and possessing drug related utensils.

Noting he had a history of drug offending, Magistrate Damian Carroll sentenced Watts to four months in jail, but ordered he be released immediately on parole and placed him on two years of probation to include random testing for drugs.

two years of probation for two plants what a fucking joke, not to mention the waste of taxpayers money/court time.......

He had history. Some people do it to themselves by shitting in the face of the law. They don't like that. You get busted, you go more underground, so it won't happen again. Gotta be extra vigiliant.
