fan question

Recommended Posts

hi all

my grow room is 3m x 1.6 and 2.3high I am running at the moment a 1000w epapillon running 18hrs and have a 8inch canfan running all day. with everything running it only gets 22c in there so I bought a growlush fan speed controller slow the fan down to make it hotter but the motor makes an awful humming noise even when backed off 10%. Just would like to know if you can put the fan on a timer say 15mins on 15mins off for example or dose that cause problems. and can you get any other controller to work without it making that humming noise

Thanks all

G'day.

Cpl things come to mind...

All speed controllers make the fan emit a noise, usually it's an electrical whine type sound. Mines barely noticeable. Growlush have a bad rep for quality, i've by no means seen one of their controllers quality in person however it's possibly not up to par. Having said that, fans don't actually appreciate being throttled and the fan itself just might not respond well to a controller. I don't exactly condone it as it's not proper however if you restrict the intake into the tent you can reduce flow but not ideal.

Next I would like to try and actually talk you out of reducing the flow to increase temps... theres other ways to heat the grow room/recycle energy...  is your ballast inside the tent? you could devise a duct to redirect the reflector vents warm air down below the canopy instead pumping it strait outside the tent. it's a big tent, why not add another light? that'd be more efficient than using an oil heater lol

Food for thought, best of luck

Thanks for the feeback on the Growlush before I bought :) I was going to mate it with a Canfan 8" as well...

Cannaversity have a self build on a 500 Watt Model # 2032E500F ceiling fan controller...perhaps that would be the g.o. Any feedback available on the self build?
