HELP- moving an established plant

Recommended Posts

Hi, some people I know live in a rental but have a 2m plant out of sight down the back of the yard that is just starting to flower

the owners daughter has split with her husband and wanting to move into the house, they have been given 3 weeks notice

They have secured a canna friendly place to move to (they know the owner)  and would like to be able to save their plant by relocating it to the new house but don't know if its possible or what to do.

Advice would be appreciated.

never had to do it mate & i don't wanna

I would be thinking you would need to take as much root ball as poss

let it dry out a bit then give it a good feed of seasol an hour or so B4 you move & same when put in place

Dig a bigger hole than needed & fill the bottom & sides with something light & airy around the root ball for roots

to penetrate easy & re-establish them selves , keep the seaweed up for 3 or 4 weeks or when she kicks on again

Hope it works out Ecce

Moving a 2m tall plant isn't exactly a great option unless its in a pot.  If it's in a pot you just turn a car into a mobile greenhouse and hope you don't get pulled over during transit.  If its in the ground you're going to have to cut out a root ball to sustain the plant and the chances of you getting a big enough root ball to remain intact to keep the plant happily alive is pretty slim at best.  I reckon your chances of getting it to survive are pretty good but by the time it recovers from everything a lot of the flowering season will be over and severely stressing a plant out like that in flower will make it stand a very high chance of going hermie too.

Good luck.
