Fresh Nutes?

Recommended Posts

Hay yall.

I just wanted to see if anyone knew if power form hydro nutez can be kept for a while or do they go stale?

I have monsta grow n bloom by grow australia and i used them a while ago on one plant, but i had no experience then and gave it up n went back to soil (i have probs with it currently n posted to pests n disease for any answers, if your interested)

Now i have the know how and i will be using an autopot system with 8 plants that are feed using a unique device that fills the trays with nutes n then wont refill till the tray is dry then refills. i will use perlite, which is apparently the ideal medium with this sys. And under a hps 400w.

So anyway, can i use the old nutes or will my plants not like it?

It's been like a year they have sat unused.

If they've been kept in a cool, dark place in their bottles they should be okay, but yeah, if there's any doubt I'd say take a trip down to the local hydro shop and pick up a fresh batch of nutes.

There are many brands, many types, in the end, it's what works for you that matters most. They're all very similar, and you should be able to get good results from most brands, depending on your individual circumstances of course.

Oh, with the autopot, make sure that every couple of weeks you flush water through them from the top down, rather than their normal feeding/watering from bottum up. This will help to eliminate excess salt buildup in the media over time.

And make sure you regularly maintain them, there are a few stories out there about people using them and they've opened permanently or shut permanently due to blockage, but if you clean and maintain one I'm sure it should do great. I've seen some beautiful orchids grown with an autopot system. B)

Hope that helps, good luck with the nutes and the new system mate. Oh, and welcome to Oz Stoners. :P

I gathered from his post that he had already opened the nutrients for that previous grow, therefore they would have been sitting unsealed for that 12 months plus the time he was growing, I would toss them if only to be on the safe side, if they are defective it could cost weeks of grow time.

Yeah, like I said, to be on the safe side, you'd be better of using a new lot. But if the nutrients were kept in their containers, with their lids on, in a cool, dark place, it's likely they'd still be in decent composition IMO. Course, few people actually would do this, and yeah, the crop would likely do better with a new batch. B)
