Autumn/Winter Growing Advice - Outdoors

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I am sure this has been answered before but I thought I would ask again in case others were in the same situation. For autumn/winter I either have the option of growing some autos flowers which would be started indoors under a 80W Philips CFL for 3-4 weeks and let it do it's thing andf be lucky to get an ounce.

OR

I would much prefer to grow some photo periods as my current ones are getting massive fat coke can size buds (which my auto's don't get to) but if I start the photo period plants indoors under a 18/6 light cycle for 3-4 weeks, and put them outdoors, will they flower and become a decent size? Like theoretically can they flower in winter because the hours of light are <12? I would attempt to LST them indoors. My current photo periods were only like 20cm tall and then shot to over 1.2m's when flowering. Would the same thing happen around april/may/june?

Would really appreciate advice from multiple people for different views/opinions on which would be better to do.

Thanks in advance guys n gals.

Yes the light hours are short enough to induce flowering, but no they wont grow big fat juicy tops they way they do in summer/autumn. Unless it is nice and warm day and night... works well in Darwin (the winter being the dry season and all) but the further you go south the smaller the winter harvest will be...

During the last major drought I grew over winter in a greenhouse, but the best buds were on the plants that came into the house at night for warmth. The stuff that remained outside was more suitable for cooking than smoking.

So would it be worth growing some photo periods which would be ready by late may/june or growing some auto flowers louise?

Or is it not worth bothering at all? Indoor start to finish is not an option and i can't get anything bigger than a CFL due to heat.

Cheers

Only you can decide if it is worthwhile, if you have seed you are willing to risk (as in risk not getting much of a harvest from them) then give it a go. If not, save your seed for spring.

I don't know where you are or what sort of a micro climate you can maintain, so the only thing I can really say is the plants will be smaller than those grown during the warmer weather, the buds (if the plants do much in the way of budding) will be smaller and have less density.

Sorry for sounding ignorant but how much would I be able to yield as a rough guess do you think? In other words if I can get like 5g a plant it is worth it as bud is nearly $20 a g here and seeds are less than $20. And I'm about a hour or two north of Sydney.
