Buying off ebay - Holland Hydroponics

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if it's safe to order from these guys? And if anyone else has used them before?

Looking to buy a tent kit to get started and upgrad as needed after my first grow - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/600w-Cooltube-kits-and-duct-fan-Ventilation-System-Grow-Tent-Hydroponic-setup-/251238953832?pt=AU_Seed_Starting_Hydroponics&hash=item3a7f023368

I bought from HollandHyroponics in 2013. No major problems. Products were not great. Cheap, but then I didn't expect a lot for budget lighting gear. One of the MH bulbs didn't work after a few weeks, and the ballast cable was damaged when it arrived. Seller was not too difficult about it and offered replacements etc but wasn't really worth it as I wanted to just get started straight away. I can't really recommend since the products were such crap, but the seller seems pretty reasonable. Sorry I can't offer any more.

Crap quality man, I would avoid them. They seemed friendly but at the end of the day if you have dodgy products and they cause a fire. You void any insurance and will face prosecution no doubt. I would buy quality from a hydro store. Plus it leaves no record.

Yes, I agree with Crunk about the hydro store. My local store has some very good prices, easily commensurate with those on eBay, and furthermore if I speak to one of the guys that I'm friendly with now, he frequently offers a discount which makes their business very competitive.

That being said, if you're trying something out and new to growing (no idea if you are or not) then cheapo stuff might be fine for trying things out and experimenting. There's things I've bought but not ended up using, so buying quality would be a waste. However, I don't think that you can skimp on a tent. A good one will make you happy, a shitty one will annoy you every day.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I checked out my local store and the cheapest set up is a grand, all good quality stuff but just out of my budget at the moment. I'm also new to growing and was planning to just grow some Autos as a test run.

I looked for some better kits - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HPS-600w-Cooltube-Grow-Light-reflector-duct-fan-Grow-Tent-Hydroponic-Ventilation-/251366582609?pt=AU_Seed_Starting_Hydroponics&hash=item3a869da951

This one seems to be pretty good, I'm guessing the tent will be cheap and shitty though and the ballast not so good? but should get me through the first grow and then just upgrade ballast and tent from there. What do you guys think?

I see what you are saying but the way I see it is, why bother buying it when you will upgrade after a few grows? Maybe try and save a little then buy a set up. I made the same mistake you may be about to, i really think you should give it a few days to decide and not go on impulse. I am sure you could skimp out on something else to buy the better quality and safe gear that will produce better results too.

I think its almost a rite of passage to buy cheap gear work out why its so shit and develop a passion in the process. You just have to hope you don't burn down the house in the process.

yeap buy that cheap shit and make sure you get yourself one of those flame ball things lol

Here's a tip for you all. Dont use ebay for purchases, ever! Thats right dont use ebay, most ebay sellers would prefer to avoid having to use paypal as a payment gateway, call them and ask for their bank account details for a direct deposit. Go directly into a branch, purchases under 400$ dont require an id.

Dankye.
