I have bought all my tents through ebay and alot of my other gear over the years ..... there are sellers that are better then others , you just have to do some research and decide whether or not you will "take the risk"

I am not sure but I think the time some one got busted from an ebay seller dobbing was when they made large purchases which looked suspicious ....seller was discount hydroponics on ebay ....I have made purchases before and after this all happened from this seller .......I haven't had a visit yet

I feel that buying stuff at a hydroponic store with your card ........going there in your car ....thats reg to your growing address ..... is just as risky as buying off ebay

All in all you should be fine if your only buying small amounts of things ...be it from ebay or from a hydro store

Sometimes it is best to see something before you buy it .... just so you know your not getting a dodgy tent ...... tents from hydroponic stores are usually pretty good quality but they usually cost a fair bit more then the same brand tent off ebay ......if your on a budget ebay is your friend

2-3 plants a 1.2 x 1.2 would be a good  size but i would get the biggest you can fit . A 1.5 x 1.5 will give you alot more room to work with .

My advice is save or get a credit card and be prepaid to spend well over $1000 bucks for a good set up that will keep you going for years to come .

No kits from ebay or discount hydro stores .

Do your research and find good brands with warranty . Buy quality  and buy once .

Good luck :)
