Gotta shocking problem.

Lesson for all who is working on electrical equipment or installing wires, always check your earth first. Anyone can install wires, but only a qualified electrician has the knowledge and equipment to test the circuit properly for faults. You are mainly paying him/her for this when they do electrical work on your house or business. Even newly built houses can have a lot of damaged or deteriorating wiring, so when dealing with older houses you need to be extra careful.

Hi Jimmy good news man you dont know how close you came to death, the old cable probably had cracked internal insulation. The only thing that saved you was you did not have a good enough earth path through your body.

Buy a clipsal life saver, work site 4 outlet box, they are orange and have a safety switch built in, Bunnings have them, not cheap but will save your life one day. Good luck.

ps buy a lottery ticket mate your luck is in.

Not so much a disregard for safety as a total ignorance of what's dangerous.

And what do I say to a licensed electrician, "Hello mate these are my ummmmm.....Tibetan tomatoes.... in a shed....under lights....on a scrog.

Thanks for the replies Naycha,If I get arrested It'll be your fault. :)

It would seem that there are are a few of us sparky's among the rank and file here, where do you live haha.

You should get yourself a multi meter and learn or have someone show you how to use it. A very useful tool.

A portable RCD sounds like it may actually perform its function under your ownership and would be a wise investment.

If you own your home, consider having one or more RCD's installed in your meter box which would protect most to all power circuits in your house/shed and negate the need for the portable RCD............ :greedy:
