Germination Growing

can anyone give me some help on growing in the germination period.

i need to know if u can grow with a purple fluro in the germination period . and what kind of temp is needed to grow in this period. also what is the ideal length before putting them into my cupboard.

Yeh, Gilly. It can be done with flouros but not as successfully though.

 

If you are on a tight budget, you might try second hand places. I have seen old heaters and HPS lights. (Although you've got the HPS.) WHy not throw that into the cupboard once they can handle a bit more heat.

 

Why not have your plants in the cupboard from day 1??

 

If its a large cupboard, might not be as risky with burn and heat. Exhaust fans installed can help to, to draw in fresh air and generally keep the girls less sweaty.

 

Luke and the others would know more in detail, so look forward to their views on the matter.

cheers. thanks longfingers . the only reason for not putting them in the cupboard from the start was i had a few people tell me that they start them under flouros first then transport them into the cupboard .

 

And another reason is i'm going to clone them to check the sex once there abit bigger . and while the others are flowering will start on the next crop to turn over more yields .

A fluoro will start your seeds as easily as a HPS and won't cost as much to run, I normally use compact fluoro's for starting seeds and clones.

so can u use any fluoro becauase the one i have is a purple one is this ok .

You can certainly raise seedlings under fluoro, they're not that big when young and are able to be kept separate from an already finishing grow.

 

As to the purple light, not sure mate. Ideally you'd be using a cool white tube or compact fluoro, can you see if there's a temperature in kelvin given on the side of the tube?

 

I think I remember something about purple tubes, but not sure if they're the ones I'm thinking of....

The "purple" ones would be those used in aquariums, they can be used as grow lights but as Luke said:

The purple ones are designed to grow plants, it contains all of the correct spectrums.

 

I used to grow with Purple fluros they were called Growlites or something.

Grolux was one brand I used, not as good as the warm and cool white fluoro's though, which in turn are nothing on a HID.
