Couple of terms in my post that may need clarification.

manufacturer = the seedbank, the company that produces the seed eg. Greenhouse Seeds, Sensiseeds.

reseller/vendor = the company that on-sells the products manufactured by the various seedbanks eg. Bonzaseeds, Herbies pick an mix.

Seed generally is guaranteed by the manufacturer. The problem we face here is that we have to go through a secondary reseller to make purchases. These resellers are generally located in the UK, and due to UK law can only offer seeds as 'souvenirs', so there is no legal requirement to assist customers in the event of germination failure.

Some of vendors will say they can't get the seeds replaced by the manufacturer... this usually means that either they can't be bothered, or they didn't buy their stock from from the manufacturer but rather an intermediary (seed can pass through 2,3 or even 4 intermediaries before reaching the eventual vendor). If the vendor does get their seed direct from the manufacturer they should be able to source replacements from the reputable manufacturers fairly easily.

I know with the seedbanks in the Sensi group it is just a matter of filling in a form and lodging it with the company. Granted, this takes time and is work for which they get no reward. Add to that the fickle nature of seed sales... a lot of resellers don't work to get your repeat business because there are always new customers to fill your place.

louise i understand the seed is only for preserving of genetics loophole,  but do you think its still worth a email when bad germ rates happen, what i dont get is how can a amateur breeder get great germ rates constantly, but professionals can have trouble, the crap est germ rates i have seen, was outdoors in rainy wet mold infecting seasons, but even then 60% germ was still happening

It's a conversation that is worth having, but it probably wants it's own thread... we've moved a long way from how close Cantgrow's plants are from harvest.
