I have run a 400w hps in a 1200 x600 x2400 drobe  for for years,  as a learner  used to get about 6-7 oz per grow (every 3 months) last grow produced about 13oz of trimmed bud, I have some cfls in an old fridge that i use for clones and as a veg area to get a head start while waiting for the drobe to be harvested

cheers good luck with what ever u decide to do

Thanks man.

I go through about 1 oscar a month and it will be fun thats for sure.

just out of curiosity how many plants at a time?

How do you guys go about your potting mixes etc...

I guess you germinate the seed the same way we used to back in science class all those years ago on some wet cotton until they pop but after that I am a bit lost.

Hey Midget,

As you've been advised by others here, don't even bother with cfl's, they will give you little fluffy buds with very little density. HID will give you the density. At the top of this page is a tab to Cannaversity,   there is a calculator to assist with the area size vs light needs vs airflow

Another little piece of advice is that it is not the number of plants that gives you more smoke but the space and light. For instance I grow one plant in a 3m x 3m room, admittedly I'm using 4 x 600wHPS in that space but by doing so I pulled just under 30 oz last grow. By having more plants in my space my veg time would be less, but if the 'filth' come visiting I only have one plant, which is solely for personal use. More plants means more chance of them seeing it as commercial rather than personal. I don't grow this time of year as managing the heat can be a pain in the arse. I grow in the milder months.

Here are some pics of my one plant grow

Now I run a recirc hydro system in perlite/clayballs. So soil isn't a concern for me. My nutrient mix contains everything the plant needs just so long as my pH and EC are managed

As for running your filter 24/7 in 12/12, in 12/12 its a must imho. 12/12 is your flowering cycle. This is when your odours are at their greatest. Depending on your situation you may be able to get away without running it during grow (18/6) but in flower (12/12) I wouldn't even bother trying, run it 24/7

Hope it helps

I run between 1 and 3 plants at a time , these days i like to scrog and try to fill the drobe horizontally.     I run an aeroponic system, however for a beginner I think Drain to waste coco would be an ideal medium for a beginner

I germinate in wet a paper towel under an inverted cup and then as soon as they sprout I drop them into a rockwool cube, probably a jiffy pot would also be ideal

Also completely agree with merlin    low plant numbers and scrog is  the way to go

cheers
