root zone chilling.

So, im kind of in between grows, ie, dont have a place to set up, but am still fossicking around the web for tips and ideas.

Now, have always been fascinated by the diverse range of colors well grown cannabis can produce, given the right conditions, but a recent titbit in a high times newsletter has prompted me to share with the community.

This applies to hydro only, hence why its in this subby, and I intend on using this method asap.

When flushing at the end of the grow, if you really want the colors to come out, chill your water. Its that easy, and an added benefit, the shock can cause increases in resin production.

Just curious if anyone else here has tried this method? Later all.

Think cold overnight temps and the effect on your plants? As for only apllying to hydro, reservoir temps can be controlled as opposed to soil temps.

Got the info from high times, and growers that submit to the publication. Maybe you can email them and tell them its bullshit, but I'll be giving it a go before I judge.

It will be interesting to see your results. Have you decided what temperature you will be chilling the water to?

Naycha :peace:

The retort, nyuk nyuk..........

Nah, seriously, went back into the newsletter and the link to get a little more info for yall.

Firstly, in nature, even in sweltering conditions, the tap root is surrounded by soil of a cool temp, these growers are simulating that in hydro.

Also, cooler water holds more dissolved oxygen than heated............

The technical, temps below 65 degrees farenheit can inhibit nutrient uptake, temps of 67 are optimal for these guys. The cooler temps below, with the warmer temps above, are giving the plants some serious love!

During the flushing period, they are saying to maintain a reservoir temp below 57 degrees farenheit to promote the coloration and increased resin production from stress. That is, the flush at the end of harvest, for those that need to be told. Hope that answers the unknown, and helps the few that give it a go................

57 = 14 celsius .... now I know from experience that will kill the roots.

However while the roots are dying and the leaves go yellow and drop off the plant the buds will slowly dry out. Weather or not their is increased resin production, well I never noticed a difference.

67 = 20c which in my experience is a little low for growing. I clone at 26c and try grow around 23/ 26. Seems to be the optimum for me.
