Legal pot plan up in smoke

Recommended Posts

I really hope one day that it will be at least decriminalised (not sure we can hope for legal) but the main thing that shits me about Australian politicians views on this subject is they sit in Canberra and all the state political venues and say how dangerous weed is and how it will cause all sorts of dangerous things to happen like people graduating straight to Meth or Heroine soon after they start smoking.

Then after they have crapped on about this for hours they all head off to the pub slam down a crap load of beer and smoke a couple of cigars or something and get in thier cars and drive home, just assholes the whole lot of them.

Really need something like the union that they have in Canada and North America. Not sure if we have something like this here but they seem to have everything on the books, Top lawyers, Judges and politicians that back them to the hilt.

Anyway those are just my views but I do think it will happen one day. Just need to see how Colorado goes and with all of the places that have decriminalised or legalised weed the reports seem to be good, Revenue was up and crime was down and they could put real resources into stamping out real drugs such as the cocaine, meth and heroine trades.

Good luck to everyone :-)

Acting Premier, Peter Ryan, said there was "not a chance" pot would be legalised in Victoria.

"Good luck to them in Colorado - not going to happen here," Mr Ryan said today.

He said he had seen cannabis destroy a lot of lives and it contributed to "higher grade drug use".

Yep and tobacco, pokies and alcohol too..... but thats OK... the lobbyists are fighting for that to be swept under the carpet.

Never seen a stoner walk up to someone and coward punch them in a drug feulled rage like those wankers who do boozed up.

But those ruined lives are OK too right Peter?

:crap:  cannabis destroyed someone's life..... FUCK OFF!

I'd imagine there would be a few lives that have been destroyed (schizophrenia). But for fucks sake, how many get destroyed by alcohol or even worse.. Maccas. The additives that are in fast food is ridiculous and a far greater killer. Wish they would get their heads out their arses and actually represent the people and inform them of the real truth.

Don't belive everything you read in the paper. The risk associated with cannabis use is minimal, if we were serious about reducing the incidence of Sz we would be focusing on maternal wellbeing before conception, during pregnancy and during the postnatal period... rather than wringing our hands over pot.

Poor maternal health is a MUCH bigger predictor for the development of SZ in later life than all the other risk factors put together. The highest rates of Sz are found amongst those people who were born prematurely, whose mothers were very ill during pregnancy (eg cancer during pregnancy) and/or whose mothers died shortly following the delivery of a live baby.

This isn't from the papers, my uncle has it and I do believe it was caused by his lifetime smoking of marijuana. And yes I do agree with what you are saying, what I was trying to say is that there may be very few numbers of it effecting lives. But they way the acting premier has said that, could mean anything..

Nice post Lou-I understand a little about sz-a little close to home in the past, and the individual was a HEAVY smoker.  I believe this Among Other Factors 'gave' him schizophrenia.  Could also be that he was born and grew up in a war/terrorist zone (The former Yugoslavia).

This is the key imo-the "other Factors" are never mentioned.  For instance, I would be interested to know the stats (I know they don't show much integrity but....) on other substances consumed as well as cannabis.

Perhaps aluminium.  perhaps flouride, ALCOHOL (#1 curse in Aus, more than we are shown have big hassles with it)....continuing-Petrol fumes????  refinery emmissions?  VOC's pertaining to plastics and off-gassing?  Pesticides?  Cosmetics??  Dare I say GM food?

Who knows but Man they gonna pick the EASY substance they don't make money on I reckon.

Peace and goodness. v :sun:

Wonderful use of a 'false continuum' argument. How is arguing the 'status' of a 'drug' refutable evidence to its legality or illegality?

What rot.

I hear it all the time from friends who believe that there is no such thing as addiction.

I believe that dependency is harmful, but as adults we've been giving the indelible rights to do what we like with our bodies.

Don't let the mainstream media falsely let you believe these rights come at a cost.

I've wondered about this one. is dependency really harmful? For example we are all dependent on food,  yet it sustains our lives.

fwiw I don't believe cannabis is addictive, not for me anyway, there was a time when I thought I was a cannabis addict but now I realize that it was just a crutch. I think cannabis addiction is just a  state of mind, and with the right kind of thoughts, can be overcome, quite easily compared to other substances, for example food....  lol

@FordFairlane

I totally agree.

After completing a year of a degree in Social Studies ( Youth Work ) it dawned on me that young people ( imo the most vulnerable to experimentation ) need every bit of information to aid in making informed decisions. And currently its the exact opposite.

Using any drug as a crutch is dangerous,it must be about moderation. I find it simple to forgo my favorite for weeks.

Try telling a dumbbell-pumping gym-junkie they're not allowed to go to the gym for a week. Same can be said for obsessive eaters.

Wow am I going off topic  I believe cannabis is not addictive. I don't know of anyone who died from marijuana withdrawals. ( I hope the oz stoner community can correct me if I'm wrong ) however there is plenty of reported cases of death from starvation.

And now I'm back in the room, politicians with this kind of bollard-mindset are trying to stop the traffic of human evolution from moving forward. Education on the dangerous of crutches seems like a smarter way to go. Don't piss in my pocket and tell me its raining.
