Drying Process - too crispy/

So I have harvested a small branch off my almost ready plants and this is my first time drying. The leaves seem very crispy and break in a flaky manner. I have a fan running in the cupboard I am drying them in which is pushing around a decent amount of air. Have I got too much air moving around in there and may have this caused the issue? They have been in there for about 2-3 days now. Any suggestions would be great. Can supply some pics if it helps. Thanks ents

I find when drying the outside laves normally go crispy , once put it jars the excess moisture down in the stems and center of the bud will be drawn out and sort of evenly distributed through out the bud.

 If it has been jarred up for a week or 2 and still feels to dry , I just put little piece of green stem of a plant   into the jar and in a day or so the buds dont feel to crispy .

Hey Crunk

Too much air flow will dry the leaves to crunchy whilst the bud is still wet inside. As Itchy states "...never good to force the drying process..." slow and gentle is the way to go.

Here's what I do.

I cut branches from the plant then hang them upside down on string in my shed.

 

I have found that during the day the buds dry out, then at night the bud draws up moisture from the stems and rehydrates

I have an oscillating fan moving the air around the hanging buds, but not blowing onto the bud

When the stem snaps, not just breaks but snaps cleanly, I remove ALL the timber. Then place it in corrugated cardboard boxes layer by layer with newspaper between each layer.

The newspaper and cardboard draws out any remaining moisture. The corrugated cardboard boxes are not shiny but are matt. The shiny surface has a plastic coating over the surface and restricts the cardboard from breathing. It needs to breathe to get rid of the moisture it absorbs from the bud.

From here I manicure the bud, removing all the head leaf, shitty bud and any remaining stem (there is no stem thicker than a toothpick) before sealing in coffee tins.

Twice a week I 'burp' the tins by removing the lids and allowing any remaining moisture to escape and the air to be exchanged.
