Guess the problem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'll keep this brief. I am trying my first dwc just with two plants and two strains, lemon kush and Canadian kush. I almost also doing two in soil. So far the growth has been slow and I am now into the 3rd week since potting the seedlings.

Nutrients at the moment for the dwc are canna vege: 1.0ec in 2* 25 litre tubs.

Ph 5.5-5.9

Temp: 25-28.5 c

Temperature in reservoirs: 20-23 c

Humidity: 45-65%

Light: 600w mh with cool tube. 18hours on 6 off.

Plenty of venting.

So last week I added about 20mls of bio juice to the each reservoir to speed up the root development and I noticed brown globs on the end of the roots and in various areas up and down the root growth. I left it for a few days thinking it was the bio juice, and then after reading some other posts I decided to change the reservoir, add a fresh batch of nutes without the bio juice, and a little 6% hydrogen peroxide. Anyway for the past week and a half there has been little to no growth and one of the plants in the dwc looks like the pictures below. I can't figure out what is wrong with it as I've tried numerous things, raising the light to 22 inches, the reservoir change, h202, dropping the nutes... Etc. please help me diagnose this!

My guess

Have you calibrated your PH meter ?

Have no idea what your globs were, never grown DWC.

When you added the H202, you sterilised the root zone, killing symbiotic bacteria, slowing nutrient uptake, slowing growth.

You just need to be a little more patient, someone who knows more about DWC will help if they can.  :console:

Thanks for the feedback guys, I may try upping the ec tomorrow and just see what happens. See, appreciate the input and I think I just called wolf before there was one, due to the brown globs on the roots and the slow growth. Given those leaves and yellowing looked like that before I added the h202. So it didn't really do anything that I could see.

Hey Mon,

At that age, don't be micromanaging things too much. The plant will adjust to its environment. Whilst the plant is in 'grow' cycle it's fairly forgiving, so most 'hiccups' can be corrected, as you are finding with your peroxide treatment. It takes the plant a bit of time to adjust to changes and as See said your peroxide will strip everything (including beneficial bacteria) from the roots. Just give it time. And again as See said 'Patience'

As for your pH meter, hmmmm.......I hate those FARKIN electronic meters, I've had 3 and they all died. Now I just use the dropper test liquid in a test tube. Works a treat every time, and cheap.

The only real yellowing I see is from the new growth at the tip, that's pretty normal IMHO. Just let it grow. Remember its a weed, it will grow.

Thanks for the tips Merlin, much appreciated and I stopped with the over loving. This is what they look like now , the first 2 are dwc. There seems to be a bit of curl on the edges of the leaves. The Ec is . 9 in both. Ph is 5.5-5.9. Temps are around 26 c in grow area.

I also may have givens soil ones a too strong dose of canna nutes, 1.5 Ec ph 6.3, as they have shown signs of clawing and canoeing as shown in the last 2 pics. Should I leave them and water with plain water when they dry out or should I flush immediately ?

Too hard to guess what the problem is but upping the nutes is not the solution and without an accurate thermometer for measuring res temps you're pissing in the wind. Temperature and pH I'd be leaning towards, high temp also means ow dissolved oxygen. I liked to use Cannazym in dwc to promote beneficial bacteria etc.
