Medical marijuana use without safety proof worries doctors

Recommended Posts

They do have a point.  The problem is the lack of proper clinical studies and trials.  It's like the guy said - "There are clinical trials that have demonstrated that cannabis can help with some illnesses and conditions, but they are relatively small in number and short in duration".  On that basis how can doctors prescribe with genuine knowledge.

I suppose it comes back to the same old problem, governments don't want spend money on cannabis research, and big pharma isn't likely to be interested unless they can then have control over production/access to the drug.

I for one would really like to see a lot of quality research done into the medicinal usage of canna, just don't see it happening in the near future.  So I suppose we'll just have to keep going with trial and error to find what works best for each of our individual needs, at least it can be fun at times :)

I find teh attitude of doctors especially galling.

For years, they were at the forefront of prohibition. They didn't have the balls to stand up and say "hey, we are doctors, we want to investigate the possible therapeutic potential of this compound, since our patients use it anyway"

Now, after helping block studies from being performed, they're worried because data that they stopped from being collected doesn't exist, and they're too proud to go and ask the dispensary staff who actually do know, because they don't have enough qualifications.

Sorry mate, you lost your credibility. No one cares what you have to say, or what youre worried about. Shouldn't have spent all those years worrying more about your paycheck than your patients, letting pharma companies supress a useful medicine, and turning patient care into a money making machine instead of a human healing apparatus.

You sir are correct! I cant remember which doco it was but basically the current system the doctors are pretty much giving the yay or neigh when it comes to accessing medical cannabis. The people who actually provide you with the specific tailored treatment are the dispensary staff! They are often hugely respected by their clients and do the best they can to have a happy and healthy client! Where as the doctors...

As far as I'm concerned they should almost be given the title and respect of being a modern Apothecary! And with that said, when/if shit changes in Australia I know alot of people here have the wealth of knowledge to really provide some help, because our doctors are going to be scrambling for information that they've been denied for so long
