Removing fan leaves

Recommended Posts

I didn't go too crazy with my defoliation. And a week on, the leaves she had left have grown (which I am assuming would have grown regardless.)

But you're right Frankie, it IS a double edged sword. From what I've read/seen, one does not want to pull ALL the shade leaves from one's plant. They still need some leaves for the photosynthesis process....

Anyhoo, here are some links to the info that swayed me.

High Times article - 30% increase in yield.

Tute from GrowWeedEasy on defoliation.

Follow up article from GrowWeedEasy.

A thread on Growery. A member's first run at defoliation.

And last but not least, from the 420 mag forums, another thread about said topic.

Apologies to admin about the external links, but there's is bugger all info here at Oz Stoners on the topic...

Hopefully, as Sir PsychoHashy said, "it won't turn into a shitfight between the 2 opposing arguments."
I like having intelligent conversations and discussions of ideas without the bitching, fighting, and name calling. We ARE supposed to be adults after all. ;)

I'm hoping others find the info I shared as interesting as I did. I would love to hear more thoughts on the matter after the info in those links have been absorbed and given some thought. :D

Happy Gardening!

But the plant also uses those leaves to produce energy and sugars! Bit of a double edged sword,

for me atleast I'll only remove stuff below a scrog screen otherwise it stays on the plant.

interesting discussion none the less

lol, holy SHIT.... what a funny thread. Frankie, when did you get your phd and more importantly... from the back of what milk carton ?

I'd want one if it was worth shit.....

defoliation works .... when you rip the fucking fan leaves off the plant will just grow more vegetatively... The plant doesnt suffer, in the wild their leaves are naturally defoliated...

Need another few inappropriately utilised biology/botany terms frankie !!!

ya dont need no fucking tutorial on defoliation.

peas.

Pretty blunt way of expressing your view, right or wrong

I'm with you See.

Not 15 minutes after hoping it doesn't degrade into name calling and BS, some troll jumps in and does just that.

The whole point of a place such as OS is for intelligent discussion of ideas and opinions.

Anyway....

I for one would love to see a tute here on defoliation. It would add to the font of knowledge we already have.

Yes, I am having good results with my defoliation. I've already read a couple of tutes and articles on the topic.

I also know how to LST, clone, and various other aspects of growing.

But just because I know, doesn't mean everyone else does, HENCE my belief that a tute would be a good idea.

Yes, I AM one of the cool kids. Didn't you know that?

But cool or not, your comments and derision were uncalled for.
It's great for people to at their two cents, but rudeness is generally very unwelcome and people will think you're just being an arsehole troll.

That's all I have to say on the off topic matter.

Yea unnecessary RL, context and civility thanks.

Let's move on.

I tuck as much as possible before I pluck but as with most things it's always plant and situation dependant with motivation also factoring in.

Having tried many spectrums from untouched to fully plucked I don't think it affects the plant or finished product as greatly as some people might think or expect. I might do the two extremes side by side somewhere in my next run and throw some pics up.

I had thought of doing much the same myself. Two clones, same size, same plant, same everything, pluck one, and not the other and see the difference at the end.

I will have my flora drobe for experimentations like that in the new year. :)

I've got a couple of other side by side's I want to do too, and post the results.
