tap water

hey just wondering if anyone has had problems with the tap water mine is 0.8 ec and after a few days with a air stone it drop and flashes between 0.6 ec to 0.8 ec  is this very high ? can it cause me dramas? I say this because iv been using ro water in hydroton / clay balls for the last few years and when I went back to cooc at the start of the year clones in small pot they where lush green feed with ro water. then I move house and think I may as well use tap water since I have a friend that grows in the same suburb with no dramas so I went back to tap water and as some know iv had so much dramas it not funny.  anyway just wondering if this hard tap water could be my problem any help would be great.

I would definitely recommend filtering your tap gravy.  You have no idea whats making it come out at 0.8EC and since you've been having issues with the grow filtering it really well will help to remove it as a potential source of your problems.

I have a tap ec of around 0.2 to 0.25, 

How old is the suburb/home that you live in ?

Old pipes/plumbing can raise your ec.

Mine is 0.4 EC. If I remember I'll throw a bucket in the sun for a day before to burn out choir ides or whatever is in there. But usually I forget and go with just tap water. Though I'm a very long way from being the best grower here obviously.

Go back to the R.O. filtered water, tap water is probably the third choice behind tank, behind R.O. filtered..

hey guys thanks for the input im goin to hook my ro filter unit back up and see if I have any changes over the next week. I also read that in 2003 perth had the worst tap water in Australia im hoping this is the problem because there is nothing else I can think of.

Perth water is soup sorry dude, the piping is just horrid.
When i had some plants up the tap water was about the same EC as yours, after some work in the area though it dropped to 0.4 - 0.5 so maybe see if you can complain about your water quality and see if anything can be done?

Wow, 0.8 is really high, do you drink it ?

hey I normally don't drink it and have started and it tastes like crap I think there is too much crap in the water here. I have since hooked my ro filter unit back up gave my plants a feed at half strength on the bottle and the ec was 1ec.  goin to flush in a few days as the run off when I watered was 1.6 so they will be flushed then feed lightly and work my way up again it the only thing I can think of now because every thing else im doin is right.

Every now and then water corp will scale the pipes starting up north coming down. Country towns nearby are notified before hand to switch to tanks for couple of days because the chemicals they send down the pipes takes off all crappy build up from time. Remnants of the build up can hang around days to weeks after. depending on where u live some are worse off than others
