Harvest Timing

Recommended Posts

hey merl1n, I do realise the are more components than THC. From what I gather, the way you grow/harvest, THC would be accompanied by a huge boost in CBN, CBC, CBD, the mix gives you your medical effect.

What about the statement that THC is at it's peak, before the trichome turns opaque ?

So if THC supplies the best trippy effect, then this should be the best time to harvest, before the plant starts mass producing the other chemicals during the later stages ???

Most people don't harvest when the trichome is still clear, but later ????

You're not taking decarboxylation into account.

Hey Train here goes a bit of an explanation on decarboxylation I found http://www.marijuanagrowershq.com/decarboxylating-cannabis-turning-thca-into-thc/

As for the levels of THC, I'm not a scientist, I'm an experimenter. I harvest at differing times and sample. I found 3 brownings has the desired effect for me.

Personally I disagree with the statement that 'THC supplies the best trippy effect, then this should be the best time to harvest'

'......before the plant starts mass producing the other chemicals during the later stages.'  I want these other chemicals

I certainly agree that this combination assists me, but other 'connoisseurs' who have sampled my smoke don't seem to be complaining, even complimenting it.

Now as I say Ive 'experimented' over a decent length of time (years). I have done early, mid and late harvests and have my own set of 'Guinea pigs' or 'connoisseurs' as they'd rather be known as lol PMSL, I run experiments on lol

Some of these people have their own health concerns but many have found a similar benefit with the longer matured produce. Both flavour and stone are improved by the longer maturation IMHO

I  understand that you are not diminishing my knowledge and frankly it doesn't bother me if you do Train. I know what works for me and my setup to get the results I require. Others have differing views and that's fine with me. I have recommended a 3 browning method to others, some have disagreed, others have given it a shot, with good reports. You ask when is the best time to harvest, I say after 3 brownings. I'm unsure of THC levels or CBN or CBC levels but after the 3rd browning the combination of these "active ingredients" is exquisite. Again IMHO

.

This is more a sharing of knowledge than a 'pissing contest'. I'm not into pissing contests. If someone else can gain knowledge from my experiences all the better

Unless you are growing the same strain repeatedly, every smoke is different. Even in growing the same strain, altering ppm/pH, light configuration, nute mix, even the final flush will all have differing effects on the final product. This is why I have a collection of different smokes, of different harvest times of different strains. I have heads, hash, hash oil and cookies. I always have something available to meet MY needs and to be honest that's all I need.

Decarboxylation - basic breakdown.

To artificially heat/dry your weed, to convert THCA, at a lower temperature than to cause the desired compounds from being vaporised.

Mainly increases THC content, slight increase in a few other compounds.

Decarboxylation takes place without extra effort when cannabis is heated during the act of smoking or vaporising. It also takes place to some degree when  cannabis is cooked into edibles.

I don't think I would apply this to my smokeables. Having a near, or zero moisture content is not what I want in my buds.

This method would probably be best suited for cooking/ingestion or extraction. It would ensure that you have converted the THCA before use/processing....... :greedy:
