Epilepsy kids given cannabis

Recommended Posts

I feel terrible for the children but glad attention is being brought to the medicinal benefits that can come from cannabis through them here in Australia.  Hopefully they'll raise attention like that poor Charlotte girl in the USA and help action get taken by having people see the difference cannabis can make to their lives.

I'm an epileptic. I am a cannabis user. I have not had a seizure in seven years, however, I have developed other health issues since I began taking AED's. The two that are of most concern is my bone density, and a dermatological condition which is yet to be identified after two years! I recieve a regular newsletter from the epilepsy foundation, recently I read a little something else about AED's.

It said basically that they have found that pregnant women who use AED's during pregnancy are harming their unborn child, that AED's are more likely to cause congenital defects in those children.

The drugs are fucking toxic to those who use them, and now it is proven to be harming non epileptics aswell!

I am in full support of all those mothers who choose to take the step in the right direction and put their loved ones lives before the pathetic laws which are limiting their quality of life.

I don't think its a bad thing, better than meds for the kids, but what effect will it have on their undeveloped brains? Thats the only bit that worries me.

Its probably the only study on Cannabis I agree with, that Cannabis effect on early developing brains can have a long term effect.

Peace. Nibbler.

I agree that cannabis can effect mental development in the young but electrical storms in the brain are worse.  I'd rather my kid grow up a mental case than a vegetable or not at all and if I could bring some peace and happiness to my sick child's life I would do what ever it took.  I'd feel bad about drugging them but I'd be more than happy to do it if it stopped seizures and brought a quality of life with it.  I think the parents dosing their kids feel the same and I can't blame them.  Seeing a child have a seizure is a horrific sight and with cannabis showing a glimmer of hope they have to take a chance.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, eh? But I'm with the Doc on this one. But I still have concerns that parents, or should I say ill informed parents, inadvertantly administer a much higher dose of medicine than is needed by their child.

I am sure the suppliers of this tincture/oil are good hearted, caring individuals who know what they are supplying, I just hope the parents listen to their advice carefully, and follow the instructions to the letter.

I hope some, if not all of them, find help for their children.

Cannabis as a treatment for epilepsy isnt some new-age treatment. Cannabis has been used to treat those that suffer from epileptic seizures for a long time now. I honestly cant see anything wrong with giving cannabis to somebody suffering; albeit somebody young or old. For cannabis to be an effective treatment for epilepsy only small doses are required anyway.

If cannabis helps you and other drugs dont and you have documentation to prove it or even anecdotal evidence to prove it then roll a spliff and indulge there are sub clauses to the dangerous drug act that allow for such medicinal use in oz.

Yes, believe it or not the legal framework is in-place for those that find other treatments dangerous or inefficient and who utilise cannabis effectively !!! :)

Yes the laws are preposterous NO DOUBT.... but they could be worse.

pea's.
