Sounds like they're trying to rally support to send in the army to me.  They couldn't do shit about being shot at as it was half expected for criminals to defend themselves so now they're trying to convince the public that the criminals shooting at the police are now poisoning your women too.  Doesn't matter if there is any truth to the statement if they can convince the public its true as they'll condemn the criminals without a second thought and demand action be taken.

Could be the conditions the villagers live in that is contributing to the health dilemma? If it is a 'lawless area', I would hate to imagine what it's like to survive in those conditions.

im with you katt they are probably using some dodgy fertilizers / soil / chemicles and or they obviously not using basic protection so they are inhaling dirt / mold spores and shit.

Yep, Burner's got a point too. Poor living conditions could be adding to the people's issues too.

 

A combo of unsafe work practices and poor living conditions. I'm surprised we're not hearing of a mass die off of the workers instead of everyone being ill!
