A combined operation by local police over the weekend, which saw a team of 14 officers and one police dog check licensed venues and street activity in the Eurobodalla Shire's three main towns, resulted in 10 people being charged on 22 counts for a variety of offences.

In Narooma two people at licensed establishments were detected with cannabis in their possession and were subsequently charged with Possession of a Prohibited Substance.

Officers from Batemans Bay general duties, the Far South Coast Target Action Group and the Anti theft Unit visited licensed establishments in Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma during the operation.

Officers are posted at doorways of the venues and then the police dog is taken through to detect any offenders carrying prohibited substances.

Acting crime manager for the far south coast Local Area Command, Detective Inspector Mick Fuller, said there had been a lot of positive comment from the general public about the operation as the police went about their duties.

"We targeted public order and street offences throughout the operation as well as possession and supply of drugs," Detective Fuller said.

"We got a lot of positive comment from the general public, particularly from people in Moruya where there has been a lot of community concern about social problems on the streets."

Detective Fuller said police intended to maintain a visible presence throughout the Shire and that he was pleased with the way Operation Viking had been conducted.

"Overall ten people were detained on 22 charges for a variety of offences including unlicensed driving and assault and possession of a prohibited substances."

No It wasnt an immature answer at all.

Police are subject to budgets,

their funds are not limitless,

so to invest the wages for 14 trained officers and a dog for a day and only get 10 minor arrests it can be viewed as a miss direction of resources and a waste of taxpayer funds.

Money that could be better spent protecting the population from more serious threats.

Yeah, like the terrorism all those people were subjected to at the hands of our supposed protectors, our politicians really need to take a good long look at the damage and waste of funding caused by this stupid prohibition idea.

Maybe those 14 cops with a booze bus could get out there and save a few lives instead of ruining them.
