Insomnia and strains that help

Nancyness

Question

Howdy all

So I suffer insomnia pretty severely. Most nights I get between 90 mins and 2.5 hours sleep. The rest of the time I lay there tossing and turning trying to sleep.

My insomnia is eased by a cocktail of sleeping tablets and muscle relaxants but the next day it renders me useless for driving and sometimes I can't even hold a conversation because my head is so scattered and strange.

HOWEVER I have noticed a change to my sleeping patterns since becoming a daily smoker. Depending on the quality of weed I can get my hands on, my quantity of sleep is greatly improved. No struggle to sleep! My eyes are closing before my head even hits the pillow. That hasn't happened naturally since my late teens.

So I have been researching strains that help with insomnia. There are thousands...... And I get confused looking at all the names over and over so I was hoping someone here may have experience in growing strains to directly combat insomnia. Or knows which strains are the best for this.

I normally more enjoy a Sativa type high but when it comes to bed time I'm assuming I need a knock out Indica.

Any suggestions would be awesome. Even if you have a suggestion that isn't cannabis related I'd still be willing to give it a shot.

Cheers in advance guys

Nance

Hey nancy.

It can depend on a lot of things i guess.

What may get Tom and Dick stoned and put them to sleep for a good nights may not suit Harry, he may need something compleaty diff to do the job.

For me a cross i did works well for me, but not for others, another i have heard that is good for sleep is black domina, it get me wasted but not sleepy.

So best way i guess is try as many as u can and find what suits u best.

Noncannabis well better not go there  lol

As Ozzy said it really is different strokes for different folks, and unfortunately you will have to try as many different strains of Cannabis as you can lol

Mazar from Dutch Passion did the job for me. The point at which you harvest also makes a big difference, harvested a few weeks early the Mazar was very racy for me and brought on a bit of anxiety. So apart from finding the right strain for you you will also have to experiment with harvest times to narrow down what works for you.

I hope you manage to find something that works for you, lack of sleep is horrible physically and mentally.

i find smoking up high sativas allows me to get high and forget somewhat of my symptoms .. which is sort of a cure .. yea indicas will make you sleep , good crosses will make you sleep , but to be honest i get wasted , then it's the food i eat that knocks me down .. lol

 irish sleeping pills , ? spuds , tatties , mashed ..

hope you find relief

Thanks Ozzy. Just assumed the 'high' or 'stone' from a particular strain had the same effect for everyone. Very interesting!

So when it comes to picking a strain that 'right' for you it more comes down to trial and error as opposed to just picking a strain from its description?

Ok so maybe some strains I already have here may do the job :)

Yeah no sleep is a killer. It messes with my head more than alcohol and drugs! Makes me do and say some really stupid shit lol

Ever since having a baby in 07 I've had HORRIBLE sleep patterns. Can't get to sleep before 3 most nights then I'm mostly up before the sun again.

Thank fark for cannabis hey! Or I prob wouldn't have slept at all since 07 lol

First thing about sleep is that our natural daily rhythms called (sarcadium rythums) are largely governed by light exposure so its the first thing Id be getting under control.

Basically you want to avoid bright light at night and in particular higher kelvin temperature that simulate daylight as it will delay your natural sleep cycle. It makes your body still think its day basically...

There's a good ap you can download for your phone and computer called flux and this makes the colour temperature of you screen warmer thus not messing as much with your natural rhythm. It takes it from daylight 6500k down to a warm 3400k at night and soes this automatically when you tell it where you are situated.

Do  the same the same around your house at night. Don't leave daylight type bulbs on and expose yourself to bright lights. Turn the tv brightness down etc etc.

Yeah there's nothing worse than not getting enough rest so as was told  about this back in uni I thought Id chuck it in there. Hopefully it may help in conjunction with some of the strain suggestions listed here.

Good luck Nancy

Hey Nancy, know where you're coming from and how much it sucks.  Not really much I can say that hasn't already been said, but will stress the leaving your buds to overmature a bit.  Since growing my own and tending to grow for amber trich's I've been getting to sleep easier and better a lot more often, could also be a hash thing helping as well as more often than not that's what I reach for.  Lean towards indicas in my experience, but it could be different for you, I find the Sativas can make it worse for me.  The advice about light and rhythms is good too.  Hope you find what you're looking for

Thanks everyone for the awesome advice.

I will start with those strains and see if they help :)

Hopefully by then I'll have half an idea what I'm doing when it comes to growing lol

Harvesting portions of a plant or one plant before another and leaving the rest to mature further is an interesting concept and something I will definitely try out :)

Thanks for that info RR. After googling it lead me to a mass of information I can't wait to sink my teeth into lol

Insomnia is one of the reasons I enjoy oxy so much but realistically I can't take that on a nightly basis and nor is it good for my health. I would much rather be able to grow my own medicine so I know what I'm putting in and I could some what control what I'm getting out as far as the effect.

Cheers guys

Nancy :)
