Looking at it from another perspective, the goal in life was to be, and maintain, a professional snowboarding career. An unfortunate accident resulting in injury prevented that goal from occurring, so being the weak minded individual he was, instead of using his initiative and devising some sort of back up plan, like most professional sports people today, he had a cry and took a shitload of drugs, so he had some sort of excuse for his failure.

I did the same thing because I was always the fat kid at school. Get a grip, dickhead, you had no other goals but snowboarding, the rest, you only got yourself to blame........... but best of luck with your future endeavours:-)
