Abbott set to sign highly secretive TPP agreement this month

Recommended Posts

Yeah, might be worth taking a deep breath and just backing off a little Vinno.  Most of us know you mean well and understand where you're coming from, and I don't believe anyone here wants to belittle your beliefs.  Problem is that when you get too evangelical in your posts it can be a bit off putting for some people, and distracting from the underlying message.  No need to keep quiet though dude.

Should anyone really be surprised that an extreme right wing government backed by big money interests would be trying to go down paths like these?  Money and power breeds lust for more money and power, and right wing governments around the world have been catering more and more to big money, and pursuing greater control over the people they are allegedly representing for years now, to the point that they don't even seem to be trying to hide the fact much anymore.  Problem is that left wing politics is following in the same direction.

If you have right wing idealogical politicians backed by big coal you get a more seriously fucked environment and less freedom, and that's just the way it's gonna be.  And as long as the masses keep swallowing the propaganda the other side of politics will never have the balls to pursue anything different.  I've been resigned to the fact that this sort of thing was coming since last year, and don't see any improvements in the near future as we have a right wing media and a nut case government, and a shitload of cash being poured into the propaganda machine from the mining industry in particular, and a populace that seems to be accepting what they're being told?????  How else does the world end up with people like George Bush Jr getting 2 terms in government and being able to start a war based on obvious bullshit?

Oops, now I'm ranting.

What is wrong with the law of Christ? Do you know what it is?

What wrong? What if I follow satanism as it makes more sense than christianity? How about if I'm a muslim or have no religious beliefs at all?  No-one has the right to force religious views upon another person let alone make laws that criminalise behavior unfitting of said religion.  In the USA for example in a lot of places its illegal to sell alcohol on Sundays.  Those laws were passed in order to uphold Christian values yet all it does is force people to stock up before Sunday or travel to the next county to buy their booze.  Its not saving souls, not helping people get into heaven and the people passing the laws sure as shit aren't doing the lord's work.  The same applies to all other religious or "moral" based laws which is why there needs to be clear separation of religion and government.  The laws that govern all can't be biased like religious ones as they need to cover everyone, not just a particular group of people.  There needs to be obvious ones that most religions follow like not murdering people but the second you force things like no booze sundays on people you are eroding their religious freedom and that is not cool in the slightest.

On a personal note I recommend reading the bible from cover to cover taking everything as the literal word of your lord and savior.  Don't think times have changed making the behavior you read acceptable back then but unacceptable now, don't for a second think any of the stories are open to interpretation, etc.  The bible is the infallible word of Christ and must be considered as much to be a true believer.  Read the good book from cover to cover thinking like that and you'll soon find out why the bible itself is the single greatest threat to christianity.

Louise, not only followers of Christ know the Word.  There are checks and balances. You will know them by their fruits.

Now Vinno, I could post a cryptic, self satisfying comment too... but where would that get us? Definitely, no closer to understanding each other's points of view.

I have no issue with you holding religious beliefs (I doubt anyone else who has commented does either) and when we are discussing epistemology, ontology or any any other - ology where individual belief or ideas comes into play, I am quite happy to hear about it. It's when you insist on posting god stuff in threads relating to realm of human action that gets irritating.

Personally, I do think that we are seeing cultural differences between Australia and the USA coming into play here... the USA might be "one nation under (a particular) god" (figure) and christianity largely accepted as part of a right and proper belief system, but Australia is a secular nation. The dominant attitude is more like the French than the Americans...ie  we have a much lower tolerance to Christian proselytizing than you will find in the USA.

I think the fact is being overlooked that it is not one 'party' or the other-they both have the same master at this level-JG and Labour haven't  removed  gst and gave us a new one -You put your faith in a political system?  check out the UN  and consider the 'sustainability' and environment' rhetoric-these are total control measures and in your hearts you know it.  Our pride constantly nags at us saying "that can't be"  "we control our destiny"  and the truth is WE control NOTHING if not by Grace. They all the same lies by different tongues and our sheep-like (ovine, I believe) loyalties to politacal parties which are just satan's monkeys is ridiculous in my eyes.  How has it worked over the last 2000 or so years?  Any b etter? are we evolving into our true higher state of being (which is Holy) or regressing into base emotions and physical desires-consider the consumeristic bent of world society today whilst in the same breath the world preaches sustainabilty and peace?  They don't go together.  It saddens my spirit when we place soo much of our hopes and dreams, yes Faith in a system that lying, evil and corrupt -directed by none other than the original proud liar-No govt will ever save us and that is a fact.  there  will be some who will appear to do so with feel-good 'we're doing the right thing' flourishes but when we live through the eventual outcomes the Light is shone on them-the results speak for themselves.  Greed. War under false justification, moving toward total control of food sources-yes you should be concerned but the point I'm making is to constantly finger point at the other, we are mistaken greatly.  We point the finger at ourselves for our apathy and greed.  The UN requires only a very few thinkers-none of us are required or wanted to think with a free spirit/mind.  Our children are being educated/indoctrinated into a system that they will not be able to change due to llack of free and critical thinking skill-yep flash lights big motors and tits is what floats their boats and that is becoming 'all they need/want to know.  The world owns you.  In Christ we are slaves never.

Peace and God's rest. v :sun:

Hey mate, totally agree with your sentiment there (minus the religious stuff :P ) but it was not so much overlooking any facts but merely commenting on state politics.

Even though I have no faith in our political sytem and I acknowledge that they are all controlled by the same puppet master, the rate at wich the liberal party actively embraces these laws/bills/acts/policies that erode basic human rights seems greater compared with labour. I think there is just a bit more resistance (real or pretend?) in the labour party to this stuff, so dodgy stuff still goes through, just takes a bit longer.

The big picture stuff you speak of is like an ultimate explaination, whereas with the discussion of micro-level politics is like a proximate explaination. They aren't mutually exclusive, so discussion of eiither can't be bad in my books.

peace bro :)

As a scholar of the environment, I really don't get this whole green movement is trying to get us BS. It is plain as day that the environment is fucked. Just look out the fucking window, Our country is being overrun by by introduced species that use more than their fair share of sun, water and nutrients, the waterways are poisoned, the atmospehere contains to many heat absorbing molecules.. For life to flourish we need to ensure a healthy envirnment is maintained. I really don't see how looking after the planet equates to controling the masses.

I couldn't agree more. It's just politcal / conspiracy drivel perpetuated by media and fools.

Vinno. Mate. I think you've got wrong forum. I doubt many here care to hear religious propaganda being peddled in a thread on a serious topic.

Oh, of course, the Church has never perpetuated slavery in its history, nor killed in the name of God. And for that matter, right now in current times, it doesn't exert influence and control over its followers while amassing money and power. Nope, that doesn't happen. You know, because a corrupt religious body is so very different to a corrupt govenment.

On topic, I don't think this is really surprising. The film and music industry have been pushing this sort of thing for ages now. Piracy is draining them. With the finale of Breaking Bad for example, Australia ranked the highest in illegal downloads of the episode.

It's messed up that a government would grant such overreaching powers to private corportation, though I'm sure it happens all the time. The internet is get less friendly by the day.

I have to disagree with music industry struggling due to internet piracy, yes money has been lost do to losing the sales of records etc, but what about the money being made at concerts? Arguably piracy of music allows it to reach a greater audience, possibly increasing the potential for artists to make money through the sale of tickets to their shows.
