These things claim to never need calibrating, but how true is this??

Has anyone acutally tested to make sure that they stay accurate?

Only reason I ask is because I just changed mine and a mates res today and we used ALOT more A+B than we normally would of in his system.

I have never heard of them failing accuracy tests either, but I'll read from the manual for ya.

Range : 2-36 CF (0.2 - 3.6 E.C)

Resolution :1CF unit (0.1 E.C.)

Accuracy : +/- 4% of reading

Temperature compensation : Automatic

Operating temperature : 0 - 50c

Calibration : Factory programmed into microprocessor

Battery Life : Minimum 1 year (or shelf life of battery)

Auto sense : "Turn on"

Auto timer : "Turn off"

According to them, it shouldn't need calibrating, but you could of course test this against some calibration fluid.

You need to periodically clean the probe tip with a little unscented cream cleanser like "jif" or "soft scrub" on the tip of your finger, rubbing onto the probe face. You then rinse of the cleanser and check that under running water no "beads" form on the probe face. If beading is present, repeat the cleaning process and test again.

They come with a 3 year replacement and repair warrantee, and I've had nothing but good experiences with truncheons and the company.

Hope that helps. :P

Could do at that wc, it could do... :)

The trouble shooting suggests three things.

1. Truncheon turns off before reading taken. : Take out of solution for 3-5 seconds. Dop in solution again and take reading.

2. Truncheon not lighting when dipped in solution. : Clean the probe. If this is unsuccessful replace batteries.

3. Truncheon gives low readings. : Clean the probe. Ensure unscented cleaner is used, such as plain "Jif"/"Soft Scrub"/"Liquid Vim"

And if all else fails, I'd say you'd be wisest to contact the wonderfully helpful people at NZ hydroponics. :P
