i was just thinkin about making a bong outta labratory glasses. is it possible to make a hole by using a blow torch and using glass glue to cover the loose bits?? anyone try this? I've got the pipe, cone thingy together with metal pipes but i'm still confused about making the hole. any have any ideas??

Use a small, then a larger bit as pipeman suggested and get the hole to the exact size with one of those little conical grindstone bits, you can pick them up in packs of four or five at discout stores. In the initial stage of drilling I've found that filling the bottle with water and sealing it reduces the number of breakages, presumably by dampening vibration. Wear safety goggles and a sturdy glove on the hand you're holding the bottleor whatever with. When you use a blowtorch nine times out of ten it shatters and it's use is limited to lab glass. With the drills and grindstone you can use any bottle you fancy. Galliano bongs are the bomb! :D JD hookahs are pretty good, too.

ive heard of people makeing holes with a blow torch but never tried it myself. Anyway you just heat up the place on the glass where you want the hole and then when its hot enough you just poke somthing like a screw driver through, then leave it to cool down. dont put it in water to cool down it could crack.

Drilling will introduce a lot of stress to the glass, if it doesn't shatter while you're drilling you might have just delayed the inevitable. A blowtorch sounds like a much better idea - if the glass gets hot enough it should help to reduce and even out any stress, but try to let it cool down as slowly as possible, maybe stick it into a hot oven after you've created the hole and then let is slowly cool down over a couple of hours, take it down say every 20-30 mins until you reach 0 degrees.

You can get some nice glass-on-glass and laboratory style glassware bongs from people like RooR or Vriptech. I've never seen a Roor locally but I like the idea of pure glass, the Vriptechs are intended for vapourisation with a heat gun so they use rubber o-rings for some seals and ground glass connections for others.

tut tut tut the best way of drilling through glass and i mean the best way is to pack it tight with wet sand.this is the best method.me and my buddies make sum awesome bongs with it and its easy.

all you need is sand water drill ceramic drill bit and electricity and of course the thing you will be drilling. good luck hope this works for you all

The bong shop in perth has someone who'll drill bottles for a price, but if you plan on doing it a bit you'd prob be best off doing some experiments yourself.

I would suggest safety glasses and a pair of gloves, as well as a long sleeved shirt might be a good idea.

I used to make bongs outta all kinds of glass bottles, large and small, in a very primitive fashion. I'd take a pair of scissors, and opening them, I'd tap one side on the point where I wanted a hole, repeatedly. With a cloth and a bit of water to wipe away the glass as it chips away and crushes to powder, you can get through most bottles, slowly but surely, in anything from 1/2 hr to a couple or more... I got quicker and better at it as I went along.

Once the glass is almost all the way chipped through, you have to be very careful and gentle for the last taps. Otherwise it's very easy to just break all the way through and crack open the bottle. Keep an eye on the levels. A drill of course, wouldn't have this problem. And I also used to fill the bottles with sand, particularly the larger ones. Some of the smaller bottles were quite easy to do so without it.

Anyway, as you make the hole the right size, for whatever stem, just sand it out with a bit of glass sandpaper wrapped around a pencil, wash thoroughly, and I mean really wash that thing, and then add grommet.

Don't forget a shotty. :P :D
