Need a simple good outdoor medium base please

Recommended Posts

Hi guys well Ive got a 100L potting bag here.. Ive got a sensi seeds early skunk this year.

Id like a good organic medium.

Can anyone give me a good run down in a simple method of what they use?.

Ill be using Seasol to feed them. Mix with water and water everyday.
Ive been using coco for years and checking ph and measuring nutrients everyday is a PAIN in the ass!!.

How Do I check the PH levels in the soil? Obviously if I made up a 50L water bucket with premixed seasol I would adjust the ph in the mixed solution.

THanks guys! Coco outdoors gives me the shits!

Hey mate,

I would be adding some coco at 20 - 30% to that mix, as well as perlite.

If you are pouring seasol over the roots of the your plant every feed you aren't feed anything unless you're using there powerfeed. In that case youw ill want to be mixing nutrients into the media. I personally have no experience with mixing for canna plants but my tomatoes are booming in Potting mix base, 20 - 30 % coco, few handfulls of washed perlite, handfull of dolomite, throw some dynamic lifter and blood and bone + myco innoculant. Now i wouldn't be planting young seedlings into a mix like this, at least canna seedlings and would ammend this for a repot after the stretch period ammended with more flowering friendly npk status for canna.

Just my 2 cents, so you wont need to mix up nutes and feed them often, if you dont want to feed em at all, you will need large pots depending on the size you want the final plants, or you could go with smaller pots and fertigate with a NPK ratio relevant to the plants stage of growth every 2 - 3 weeks.

I hope this ahs made sense and helped a bit

thanks for that reply..

I meants to say seasol powerfeed :)

I have heard searles 5-1 is a good start..
I have access to fish and chickshit, horseshit, cow shit...
Coco/ perlite.... Anything else?????

All going in a 100 litre bag...

Ill make up a 50 litre solution of seasol powerfeed . Do i need to check the PH in the powerfeed and adjust that too ???

Keep it simple for me guys ! im a outdoor organic NOOB!. but I can definatley grow some cracker plants with just coco outdoor while feeding canna a+b. Its just very time consuming.

My base mix is Searles 5 in 1 mixed equally with cow shit. Then you can add coco to your liking (I also use perlite or charcoal depending what's on hand).

Where you go from there is really up to you. That mix does fine when a soluble pk booster is used during flower. The mix also does well with some blood n bone and dolomite added.

Whatever you decide don't go overboard, start simple and gradually refine your medium as you learn how your plants react over time.

I have never measured pH when growing in a soil medium, generally soil acts well as a buffer.

Awesome nay, Ill take that medium of yours on board this year... So bassically If I use seasol powereed and mix the nutrient with water I wont need to check the PH because my medium will equalize itself right?

Oh and what about blood and bone? or even some dynamic lifter?

All i want to do now is just water and sit back. Measuring PH all the time SHITS ME!

THANKKKS!

do you usually start your seedlings in this base aswell? .... What do you feed with? powerfeed?  I usually start them and upgrade pots... after the 25L pot.. it Goes straight into the big 100L bag

Cheers nay

Oh wait, now I get it.. so the the actual medium contains "nutrients"... and the soil buffers the PH. thus meaning there is no need to use seasol and products like gogo juice? is that correct????

Thanks for helping out the noob....

Im going to go out get a big tarp and start mixing for my 100L bag

Searles 5-1.
Coco
Cow Shit
Perlite
Blood and bone.
Dolomite lime

all mixed through in a tarp with a rake. equally... Now just to get the ratios right... Anyone have an idea what ratio to do?
Feed with straight tap water. The tap water around here is around ph 8. No seasol powerfeed needed as the medium contains all the goodies right?
