How to tell sex outdoors early?

Hi All

 

Looking forward to my second ever grow. I successfully grew a nice Trainwreck last summer in my back yard. Was an awesome feeling to finally smoke it! Have everyone on this forum to thank for the end result.

 

This year I want to try Bubblefuck but they only come in regular seeds. As I don't have an indoor set up I am trying to think of a way to determine sex as early as possible. Do you think putting a bin or something over them to force flowering is a good idea? My only other plan is to try and get a couple of clones and force them to flower. I just don't want to end up with too many plants at one time. I'm a respectable family man

Wait until they reach sexual maturity, around 5-7 nodes, and use a magnifying glass to check for pre flowers.  It's not 100% accurate, but it's pretty close.  They usually start around the 5th node.  If they come out on a little stalk, you got a boy, a teardrop shape with white hairs eventually popping out is a girl.  Cull back to your best girl/s and you're set.  Clones forced to flower will be most accurate, but more time and hassle, and it's probably still best to wait till they reach sexual maturity before taking the clones anyway.

psychohashy is right. after around 4-6 weeks they usually start throwing preflowers. you may need a magnifing glass of you want to spot them when they very first start forming but if you just wait another week or so some of those preflowers will start getting pretty big and obvious. check the main stem at the points where it is throwing out new branches

OK thanks guys, I will maybe crack 3 seeds and hope at least one is a girl. So you reckon 4-6 weeks from seed? That seems pretty quick.

 

Yeah I'm excited about growing the bubblefuck. Seems exactly what I am looking for. Also SS Seeds send from within Oz. I lost so many seeds last year due to bonza seeds being rubbish.

You can determine a plants sex before the pistillate nature of the female has displayed its promiscuity. Male's usually have what appears like a small 1mm leaflet that the female doesnt have nestled upon the beginning of a lateral branch, the appendage is not straight like the tip of the females bulbous staminate and are slightly curved,males are first to display their sex 9/10; they are generally taller also. Theres no need to sex plants, its easy to identify their sex after the 4th or 5th internode in most cases.

Hey all im new how do you tell male from female after the fourth or fifth node i no they get that leaf bit at the branches but iv always seen them bigger then 1 mm can you shed a bit more light on this cause i seen ur post and wanted to know more cheers pics would be great

Not trying to sound rude, but just google "male cannabis preflower?" ... there is also likely a thread somewhere on the forum with the relevant photos also.
