Dry Rocky Soil and Watering

Recommended Posts

what is dry hot country* like for growing dope if the water is kept up to it?

soil is a hard and rocky too.

how do i get water into a patch that is not near a creek? any tricks?

Im thinking of lugging those 20L plastic drums in and putting a dripper on a piece of small hose. 1 for each plant for in between visits.

How often will I need to check them for watering? Every couple of days or each week?

Dont really like the sound of carrying X amount of 20L drums full of water through rugged terrain over X amount of k's, but you gotta do what you gotta do i suppose.

Any tips from the experienced (or newbies) appreciated.

Hi Billy, welcome To Oz Stoners.  Hot and sunny won't hurt your plants, in fact they love it so long as the root zone doesn't get to hot and you keep them hydrated.  What hot and dry conditions do is make the plants transpire more, and if you don't keep the water up to them they will either die or shut down their growth for a while.

Hard rocky  soil though is a problem.  I dig nice big holes, line them with builders plastic leaving the bottom open, and fill with suitable soil/medium that drains well and lets the root system grow well.  Some people add various water delivery systems, but you still need to be able to get enough water into the location, and how you do this depends on your own circumstances, and this will be the limitation on how many plants you can grow.  Carting it all in in a backpack is good for fitness, but not much fun.  Easy option is a big tank of water in back of a 4wd if that's possible.

How often will depend on how much you water, how it's delivered, and weather conditions.  Keep an eye on your plants, they'll let you know by getting droopy and sad, once you get used to how they are going you will figure out your schedule.  Good luck with it

OPtions

Find a better place to grow with a water source use 12v pump etc... Most preferable.

Consider digging a dam and flining with plastic camoing the top.

Consider using pots with trays underneath burrying them to keep them cool as an alternative to the above sugestion. Will be easier to maintain come heavy rain , ant, termite or security issues.

Keep your plants small will make it all the more doable ie. plant later in the season grow auto strains etc....

Go for a high bang for your water holding capacity medium like coco..

Consider how awesome your photo oportunities will be with your plants contrasted against the dry rocky landscape then take photos and post here

Few things that come to mind anyway... :hi:
