Greetings earthlings. This is my first post ever, anywhere. Have grown a few dodgy plants in dodgy pots with average success. This time I am going to give hanging grow bags a trial this time for a number of reasons.#1~last crop I grew in BIG plastic pots grew to Gigantic heights! [due to me being a bit heavy handed with Seasol tonic]. I'm talking taller than my 6 foot high fence in a matter of weeks !!! My neighbour kindly let me know that when her friends came over at night to play on the kids swings they could see and smell them from the boundry airspace!! #2~the shonky wonky screens I had to construct out of old cane blinds, hessian bags and $19.95 Bunnings brushwood fencing looked a bit suspect [ya think?] #3~I'm getting too old to move heavy pots to hiding spots everytime the cops drove down the street to another noisy party or domestic. Soooooo I got these hanging bags and I thougt if I hang them up in the trees they might blend in a bit better. If I had to hide them they would be easier to unhook and I could just hang them in my garden shed until the coast was clear. QUESTIONS ~ Will they grow downwards? Will they get enough sun? Will the tops have an issue with water and fertiliser running down onto them? What will the roots think about this? Will the birds and bats and possums have a field day with this strange new possible food source? Any advice would be great. Surely someone out there must of tried this before.....Well thats it, my first post, yay! I've just impressed myself. OK now it's out to the Universe. Have a fantastic day everyone. :) KimiWah.xoxoxo. :give_rose:

Hi Kim welcome aboard.

As you have found cannabis can get quite big.

A plant can be keep small by tieing it down growing through a screen and topping, and a few other diffrent ways.

The plant will all ways grow up, hanging the plants in the tree can make them stand out and a lot more easy for people to see, but if the tree is to thick a bushy it could block the light for the plant so only get a sub par plant.

Back in the day where i grew out doors i use to use a wheelie bin cut in half so i could put them away at night and chase the sun around the yard.

I would tipp the plants so it would grow short and round rather than tall like an xmas tree.

Do lots of reading of the boards and you will get a good idea of ways to keep ya plants hidden in with in a size that all around the hood will see them...

Couple of thoughts...

Try an indica dom variety if height gain is an issue... I can guarantee you it was the variety of cannabis and not the seasol that caused the rapid height gain :good:

Hanging bags still need to be watered and that can be hard if they are up a tree. Even if you suspend them on a rope so you can lower them for watering they are bloody heavy to get back into position wet.

Possums will love them as will black birds, dunno about bats.

If pot weight is a problem with soil (it was for me) consider swapping from soil to a blend of coconut fibre and perlite. Coco and perlite are much ligther than soil and, as a hydroponic medium, you can get away with smaller pots. The only draw back is that you will need to use a coco specific nutrient to get good results as a beginner.

All the best, lou :gardening:
