maximum light per plant

Recommended Posts

hey everyone,

i was talking to a mate the other day about the possibility of him increasing the light in his 2X2 tent

from 1200w to maybe 2400w or even more just for a cycle. (this would be using my two lamps)

i guess it would be a bit of an experiment to see what would happen to his 4 plants in there.

has anyone tried dumping like 600w or more straight on their girl? i was wondering how much light might be two much? without taking the extra heat into consideration

I would not go any less then 2 600w  in 2m x 2m .

I have 1.5 x 1.5 and am testing 2 600w . Seems ideal imo . 2 good sized well trained plants or 3-4 plants is perfect for that space .

To much light ? If the light is there the plant will use it and grow into it and i dont think 2 600's are over kill .

2 1000w would be overkill lol   .

if you can control heat i would go for it. im pumping 800w into a 900mm x 900mm space and the girls love it. and im now bumping up my other 1.2m x 1.2m tent to a 1000w.

sun runs at about 100000lux on a sunny day. my 800w at around 24' above my plants gives me around 50000lux so going off that i can double my lighting in my tent and they would still be happy little campers. whether i could control heat is another thing all together

i have to say i bumped the 1000w lamp into my 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m tent today.  i have mixed feelings. for starters the heat is through the roof. i dont have a thermometer in my tent i just go off feel and the way the plants react but straight away i could tell there was a ton of heat in my tent, im not sure im going to be able to keep it in there even though i have it in a air cooled hood and a good quality one at that.

second of all i get better lux at the tops using 2 x 400w Lamps than i do running the 1000w. with the 2 x 400 i can easily get 50000lux at the tops by having the lamps at about 1.5 - 2 feet above the canopy. with the 1000w i am struggling to get it close enough to pull any more than 30000lux without the heat destroying my plants.

thirdly though is penetration the 1000w kills the 2 x 400w for penetration. with the 2 x 400w the lower sections of my plants are cast into shadow. the 1000w seems to light them up all the way down to the pots.

i dont really know what to think of it all yet but i may be better off getting a splitter and running 2 x 600w off of the solis tek ballast?

Hey mate yea I would consider using 2 600s rather than one 1000w due to the heat difference you would think having two lights be hotter but them 1000s have huge globes that put off an extreme amount of heat. Split your ducting with a Y piece down to two smaller ducts to hang near the two lights to take away most of the heat.

You can get too much light if your plants are too close to the source.

It will cause a bleaching look to the leaves

Biggest problem with too much light is getting rid of the heat.

this a is a good distance chart.

Thanks buzzo.

So i take it the only factor that could give plants to much light would be the distance from the light, saying the heat was under control... interesting

Nice chart but say if you have a room with 3 600w lights it says the distance should be 12 inches from the plants for one 600w but I have 1800w of light in the room so should I times the height recomended by 3 raising the lights to 36 inches.
