new grower - lighting advice please!

hi everyone. what lights do you use for indoor growing? I was after the quantum badboy t5 lights but i cant seem to find them anywhere that will ship to australia. grr can anyone point me in the right direction?

 

where did you buy your lights from? and where did you buy a inline fan and carbon filter combo from? amazon doesnt ship these to australia either.

Hi There lili

Most of us use HPS (high pressure sodium) or MH (metal Halide) high intensity discharge lighting. Although there are some here that use fluros. The HPS can be used for both veg and grow, which is what I do. Some members do however grow with MH then change to HPS for the flower cycle. The new digital ballasts can take both HPS or MH bulbs so swapping bulbs is easier than having swap the whole lighting rigs.

As for your fans and filter, most Hydro shops stock them and this is a lot less hassle than trying to import them, as questions may be asked as to what they will be used for by Customs/police.

take cash with you to the hydro shop so as not to leave a paper trail. i heard a story in NSW of them raiding customers who bought from a hydro shop. they got a lot of false postives i believe but i'm sure they also busted a few so something to think about. i dont remember now where i read that but it does worry me cause i did use my cc to buy my light which was unnecessary. to much excitment about getting my grow on that stoped the brain from thinking properly

local hydro shop will have everything you need.  just make sure you get good quality stuff so no LEDs and don't be fooled into buying fluros thinking they can grow a crop.  You'll need HPS lighting, a quality fan, carbon filter, ducting, cloning equipment, etc.  Remember you only get out what you put in but that price isn't the be all and end all, trust me the hydro shop will try and get you to buy over priced shit you don't need so read up here for a bit until you have an idea of what you want and go in there with a plan and lots of money.

what about this option:

I have a friend living in america that can purchase a grow tent, then ship it to me herself in a parcel. is this a safer option?

google sydney hydro shop, open the map and find the one closest to you.  I wouldn't worry about your friend in America sending you a tent or anything, the postage would be crazy.  I would however consider asking them to send you some seeds as the medical scene in the USA is really starting to get very high quality strains in seed form and it would be very easy for them to get some for you.

haha she is sending over some jack herer seeds i think , but not sure if it will get thrugh customs in australia. i didnt realise there was hydro stores in sydney, turns out there are a couple very very close to me.

btw is it safe to talk about these things on this forum?
